Default Oldie A40 seems spoilt, kindly advise

Hi guys,

My A40 cam's lcd screen will start to flicker after about 2-3 mins. The flickering gets worse gradually. Pictures taken decolourise also gradually. One example:

Initial thought was batt running low but on fully charged batteries still the same...

I have done a search on the forum and sent the cam for service at canon svc centre, now waiting for them to give a reply on the diagnosis.

I got a feeling that the repair will be quite ex, may not want the svc centre to fix it. so would like to ask if you know what is wrong with the cam, can i fix it myself? Or any recommendations to repair shops which will be cheaper?

Thanks in advance

I think ur CCD is failing. Wait for their repair quotation. If too ex, might as well save a bit more and get a newer A series.

I'm using A40 too.. so far okay, but same problem Lars, the zoom is not very responsive. Quite irritating sometimes.

I am looking to replace it soon. Maybe a G6.

Thanks Pr0t0type

Yup I called up Canon to enquire about my camera. The technician said that it's the main/circuit board faulty. Replacing it will cost $150 and with the repair charge, total $200+. Wow

I told him I doesn't wish to go for the repair so taking back the camera tomorrow. Is it worth to try other camera repair shops, will their prices be much lower than Canon svc centre?

Not sure if other shops can repair. But if you are serious to get your A40 repaired, I think let Canon do the job.
