Thread: Driving to Paris

    Default Driving to Paris

I was playing with google maps, and it tells me that we can drive to paris in 17 days, assuming resting for 12 hours each day.
    Sg to india 3.5 days
    India to turkey 3.5 day
    Turkey to Rome 1 day
    Rome to Paris 0.5 day

I wonder did anyone ever done this before?

Your car comes with both left-hand and right-hand drive?

I don't have too much faith in technology after this incident

Driver mindlessly follows GPS directions straight into water
    I eats, shoots & leaves

    You trust Google maps?

It has shown really ridiculous suggestions in the past:

I think others have reported directions including: jet-skiing across Pacific Ocean (Japan to China), kayaking across Pacific Ocean (Japan to USA) apparently with pit-stop in Hawaii..... Among many others..

KL to London has been done a couple of times by Motorbike and Motorcars before

In fact one of Clubsnap's friends from PhotoMalaysia , Yusuf Hashim (Digitalartist) has actually done it twice (one Norther Route and one Southern route) and organizing more similar trips

And shooting every single step of the way

    Read his adventures here

so dont just fantasize it on Google Maps ..... make it a personal reality

fyi Yusuf is a regular guy with a regular job (used to) but with lots of heart and a never-say-die attitude like
    William Chua
    Edwin Koo
    Stefan Chao
    Khoo Swee Chiow
Peter and Sonya Fong (the first Singaporeans in 1997) etc etc etc

I've emailed Yusuf about this thread and asked if he could just pop in to comment and encourage the dreamers among us

    p/s he's a CS'er as well

I know a teacher of mine, a friend who did a backpacking journey from Europe to Singapore and it took him 6 months. It's definitely something I want to do in the near future.

Nope, I haven't. I don't intend to drive from Singapore to London (or something like that) anyways.

Singapore to Paris = 14,400 Km
Say 18 days and 12 hours driving each day (perfect journey)
    So 14,400km/18days= 800Km/day
Looks neat but need to clear numerous border controls, approvals, delays,detours...
    Good luck

How are you goiing to bring the car back from paris?

that leaves you little time for anything else.... then better just fly to paris direct .... cheaper and faster

you are assuming all the roads are going to be like ECP or PIE type highways ? lolzz
this type of journey is a total waste of time if you are going for a speed record
its the journey that matters than the end destination
    2 to 3 months minimum

Hi Eddie and Clubsnap members. Driving to London from Singapore is doable. I've done it twice already. Last year we drove from Cape Town to Cairo. Did Kuala Lumpur to India in 2003. Khartoum to Casablanca in 2004. Buenos Aires to Buenos Aires in 2006. If you want to join us, get in touch with me. We're driving from Istanbul to Beijing next year. We've got a couple of guys from S'pore who's been joining us regularly on these trips. All you need are a bit of time (between 30 to 90 days for each trip), a bit of money (about $30k per trip or approx USD150 per day), an understanding wife or partner who will let you go away for about 3 months and not make a fuss or threaten to leave you, some reliable people to run you business while you are gone, a bit of skill to drive a 4 wheel drive vehicle over difficult terrain, no health problems to cause you to be a problem to your fellow adventurers, and lastly, a lot of spunk to make your fantasies come true. If you have those 7 factors, drop me an email and I'll give you more details on how to join us in a drive from Istanbul to Beijing next year. We did the same route earlier this year and it was so much fun that we're going to do it again next year. We'll ship our cars to Istanbul, fly there and drive through Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and China to Beijing. We'll ship our cars home from Beijing and fly back from there. Cost of shipping your car out in a container is approximately RM 15k one way.
Do you have the 7 qualities I mentioned above to join us?

For those who don't have the 7 must haves, you can join us on more civilized photosafaris organised by photographers for photographers and pussycats. Check details of our 2013 programs at Photosafari | a photographic experience
