1) error99 is general error, could be linked to no.4, or sometimes i get it when i change lens too many times with the camera on.
2) error01 i forgot is what haha 3) the battery door is stuck? can you describe more? 4) Can try the namecard solution (cut a namecard strip and put it in along with the grip, appears to help according to another cs-er) 5) maybe check LCD brightness in menu? sometimes is the lcd brightness too low |

I usually hold camera wif lens 45 deg up then slide the button. The gravity will open the door for me.my grip is ok, need to thighten very tight. did u try built-in flash? Cos maybe problem wif 580ex. BTW just got mine & it works perfectly. Maybe try wif other lens too. Anyway, I work at Harbourfront, office above Canon. If u sending camera in to canon, can get me to come down from office & take a look.

Hmm.. seems like your camera and grip are lemons?
1] & 2] - I've only had Err 99 once before, never seen Err 01. 3] - My grip's batt door flings open when sliding the open "switch". It should be spring loaded. Maybe you can check to see if the metal "hindges" at the sides on the inside are in the right place. 4] - The grip looseness can be fixed with the namecard trick mentioned but actually any sort of paper can be used to add thickness. 5] - Does the same thing happen with your built in flash under the same settings/conditions? Could be the camera's TTL info not sending correctly or something? (can't be ur cam/grip/flash all lemons right?) Anyway, good luck with your next trip to Canon. Hope they resolve these issues for you. |

3) Ur... its no spring loaded so maybe tilt downwards 4) Use some card to slot it in. Make sure your screw is thightened. It should be quite snug even without the card. 5) Check if your aperture blades are stuck. For premature low power to your grip you may wanna send your 20D for servicing. ![]() |

Eh.. I think the door is slightly spring loaded. Even if I tilt my camera slightly downwards the door will still pop up.
Anyway, forgot to mention. Don't overtighten the grip screw. There was one guy in the DPReview forums who overtightened his in an attempt to get the grip secure and he ended up having the grip stuck on (the screw thread became warped or something, can't remember). ![]() |
