I like this photo of urs nikonsiao.. there are 2 ways i see it.. you could have taken a pic of the old men playing chess, emphasising the game of chess or like what you have taken, emphasising on the chessboard itself.. i think its a unique perspective..but you could have taken a few more steps to bring out the feel.. i think the colours are a little too cold.. doing injustice to the light source u have.. also.. the packet of tissue paper could also be clone out.. anyway.. i have done some minor adjustments to your pic.. pls let me know wat u think..

in any case u think i should not do changes to your pic, without first asking you, i apologise and will remove it asap.. we are all learning ain't we?? cheers~~

Hi Tan131,
really appreciate yr effort in PSing my pic. it nice to know you like my pic. I must apologise that i am doing injustice to the pic cos my PS skills sucks..
There is no need to worry about changing my pic cos we are all learning from each other. In fact it would be better if you dun resize it, the 'punch' is greater.
Once again, thanks for yr feedback and time spent in doing something which can benefit many others in Clubsnap.
Cheers.....
Here is the other pic...Check out what the guy on the right is sitting on....

Hi,

I like the way pix is framed.

When you say Chinese Chess, the last thing I expected to see was a pair of feet! Thus the pix has that element of suprise and a unique point of view.

Unfortunately, colour lighting etc not too great but things like that cannot always be helped. Cannot ask those guys to move to place where got better lighting.

For me, if a pix presents an unusual perspective I would still shoot it even if colour, lighting etc not good.

Even if lighting is so poor that I have to hold my breath, shoot at very slow shutter speed and hope my hand / camera did not shake, I would usually still try.

To those who have not yet seen the pix “SPOOKY” also posted here, I recommend you visit the thread. It has none of the usual nice scene, brilliant colours, good lighting, etc, but GREAT PIX (in my opinion) because of the way the subject was captured.

Hi Nikonsiao.

Following Tan131's footsteps, I have also taken the liberty to modify your photo and practice my photoshop.

How's this?

here is what is did:
1. Crop pix further to reduce space at the front and right

2. Adjust hue / saturation to reduce saturation of cyan to make the floor appear grey. I believe that was original colour?? Anyway, grey floor looks more correct to me than greenish / cyanish floor. Somehow, when I reduced green, not much difference.

3. Removed tissue (as tan131 did) and also removed some dark areas at top right corner and slightly off the corner.

4. Tried to play with brightness / contrast but the results were not satisfactory, so left it as it is. But when I “saved for web” it became much lighter, so darkened a bit to compensate but could not get back to exact original.

Comments please. Anybody else got other PS suggestions. This is interesting learning for me, I hope for others too.

try a mono print and use the render lights effects to set an omni flash to it..... tt would darken out the edges...

this has a very singaporean feel to it... now all tt it needs is PS to achieve the correct mood to portraying it....

cheers..

Er.... how?

I know how to do mono print, but when I select “render”, I could not go on to select light effects / omni flash.

I only Photoshop DIY, a lot of things dunno how to do. Care to share about rendering light effects? Otherwise I have to wait till I buy a photoshop book.

OK figured that part out.
I had to do the flash before converting to greyscale.
For some reason if I do it after, the lighting effects could not be selected.

But not so nice leh.
Or rather I could not figure a way to make it nice leh.
