Default Our very own Hantu Blog

Hi guys ...

we have been thinking of doing up a sticky thread, showing photos of marine creatures at our backyard Pulau Hantu.

But what shall we call it?

Debby has already gotten a very good blog on Hantu, with pretty up to date dive logs and pics. That web site has the vision to display as much pictures and stories about Hantu to help to conserve and save the place.

I tend to think that a single solid attraction is more effective than 2 separate and smaller ones.

agree with Luv4nature.....u'll do better contributing the photographs to Debby. U can call the contributing photographers UWCS members or something, to identify us belonging to one club.

With the diving season in W. Malaysia re-opening, Beivied, how often do u see urself diving in Hantu? Are u committed to diving there once a month at least so that there are updated photos? There are so many photos now becos u fellas just came back. We always have lots photos when someone returns from a photography trip - Lembeh, Maldives, Similans....but it will die off after a while.

speaking of which, when are u planning your next Hantu photo shoot trip?

our aim is not to diversify or weaken debby's blog.

and we wont be having dive maps and stories on hantu on our sticky thread, as we are essentially photography based, and if we have too much stuff in a thread, it is going to be messy.

so it is mainly only photos taken off pulau hantu.

the sticky is mainly to provide our members a place in ClubSNAP for uw photogs to post and search for related photos.

members are definitely free to post their findings in other forums as well. it is their photos

hey, then we shouldnt even call it hantu thread... it should be for LOCAL uw photos

i personally wouldnt see a need to plan a trip at least every month to keep the thread so called active. it is more of an archive of what have been seen off local waters, so you do not have to keep on posting actively in it.

but i am hoping to dive in local waters at least once every quarter during malaysia open season. once every two months would be more ideal, but most prob not every month...

i am planning to do another hantu trip, or sudong wreck trip, most probably next month

then why Hantu pics in particular? you will need a sticky for Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and rest of the world as well.......

My point is a thread will only be successful if there are constant updates and new posts. Don't start something if u cannot sustain.

Let me know details of the next trip. Wonder if Waisj wants to dive Hantu one last time before he leaves.......

because myself and lot of the uw photogs here are enthusiastic about our local waters. thats why the intention.

waisj and i had discussed, and find it a good idea.

we will open a poll then, to see if you guys are in support of a sticky thread, showing photos of marine creatures taken off local waters.we will stick to the majority's decision.

i doubt he will be wanting to dive now ... he has only one more week before he flies to oz, and seems like he is hell busy.. see, he came online to clubsnap only once, after what seemed like weeks.

hmm i think its a gd idea for ppl to see pics of the residents in local waters..
not to fight with debby's hantu blog or wat.. but more of to share photo collection.. and to aid in local water marine conservation and awareness...
we can of coz anytime provide debby with any of the photos she wan..

something like

IMAGE

- Common Name: xxx
- Scientific Name: xxxx
- Location: Near jetty
- Date Found: 19 Feb 2005
- Description : blah blah..

perhaps ppl can use this thread as a tool for easy identification oso?

If you are talking about a site that keep a detailed database of what we had found in our own waters like what this group of people had done here based on their own hobbies, YES, it would be rather interesting.

Else not really serving any purpose.

And of cos, I believe most would prefer a independent site which we can discuss more than underwater photography when it comes to such forums, so riding on UWCS is definitely not advisable.

ok, maybe it was wrong of me to have our own Hantu Blog, which might have been the reason to raise more controversy than i had expected. it was more of the intention to provide easy relating.

it is our own, our own for species identification and location in the local waters, photo appreciation and kinda in support of local marine conservation as well.

Why here? Because here, is our space, where we have shared so much. Photos, technique discussions and critics, trips experience, arguments and hey, fun and laughter as well.

Goondoo, yes we are not able to do provide as detailed info as the website that you have linked to on local waters. but that mainly is not our objective. and being essentially a photography forum, uw or not, that is beyond us.

there are lots of different sources for anything, including on Pulau Hantu. that shouldnt be a reason why we cannot have our own thread for photos and ID, isnt it? Contributing photos here, or any other similar website, would be also doing a part in local marine conservation.

i would like to emphasize again that we do not have any wish, and will not be weakening on commendable conservation websites. Look at us, the recent trips that we have done, and photos that we had posted. we have raised an awareness on local waters in this forum, havent we? Now, how nice if we can build on that and do our part! while photosharing and appreciating!

That, is my aim, and our objective.

Hope this can clear most of the queries and misunderstandings.

actually, if you guys don't already know, besides debby's hantu blog, i'm already hosting pics from pulau hantu in http://sg.homeunix.com/hantu . you can email me your pics and they will be uploaded to the site when time permits.

the URL is also linked from debby's blog so it gets a fair share of viewership, not only by clubsnappers but by ppl all around the world too.

photos that are kept alone for ourselves is a bit selfish, somewhat, you know...
