I have shot the Drongo countless times, but never getting it right because of the black sheen. They love canopies and flimsy branches, giving us a hard time focusing. Flashing them makes it very harsh but you need to to bring out details on the jet black bird. They do not stay at one point for long, so you got to make the shot count the first time! FYI they are in abundance at Bedok Reservoir! I wish I had the opportunity to catch on of these in flight. Very cute, they have rear stablizers!

Good catch Joeyao.
From what WK had described, pic #1 is quite impressive considering the bright background too!

Bedok Reservior???? I am surprised! The Greater Racket Tail Drongo is a true forest bird prefering thick canopy as you have mentioned. Bedok Reservior doesn't strike me as a forested area (I may be wrong)... but trust that you are right. Will check out that place sometime soon

Abundance at BBNR also. Bukit Timah too... Saw one fly over the PIE was I was driving. Fascinating! Not for the other drivers when my eyes always in the sky!

These 2 birds are a dime a dozen in Bukit Batok Nature Park. In fact I once encountered 3 Greater Racket-Tailed Drongos together and 3 species of woodpeckers in one day and at one particular location in the park!
