Hantu Wide Angle
-- Did this at the jetty.. on one of the pillars.. is it too dark? or u ppl prefer to see more details? actually moved away my strobe for this.. did try another one previously with the plants properly lit up.. but think doesnt hav a strong mood effect leh.. Sea Grape? -- Did a close up on the seaweed.. for a change.. ok anot ar? Seahorse -- YEAH!! finally saw a seahorse in hantu!! was so excited when someone(paiseh.. too excited till forgot who liao..) pointed that baby to me.. But very disappointed as i couldnt take a decent photo of it.. practically fried this poor seahorse... keep trying and trying... and only got this shot ok.. hmm seem like my camera got a BIG BIG prob to focus at low light condition.. cant focus at all. :< (*will do a simple test on 5060.. regarding this prob in few days time... ) Last edited by siaoon; 21st February 2005 at 03:24 PM. |

you have the benefit of a TTL system which saves you a lot of time , leaving u with more time to think of how to compose the shot or placement of strobe. |

i know the perfect solution for low light photography... 1 x DSLR 2 x DS125 Caution: All to be bought before meals, as it may cause nausea. May/will cause drowsiness too. |

Lovell, is this shrimp diff from what we saw? siaoon's look more transparent and the allied cowry was not there. Does this mean there are 3 type of gorgonian shrimps? |

Pretty good,..... keep it up and make good use of my "Ex". It has seen some good stuffs before so you need to keep feeding her with quality shots to satisfy her
Strobe placement, be more daring to position the strobe as close to the subject as possible. Some shots look a bit dark may be due to strobe placed too far from the subject. |

Strobe placement - was using 6"+8" arm initially.. but seems a bit long leh got difficulty to place the strobe properly.. so in the end changed to juz 6" only. Placed slight juz above the lens most of the time.. sometime shifted slightly to the sides... hmm.. wont the subject be too burnt out if i place the strobe too close to it? or u saying close to it.. but not aiming the strobe directly on it? still using edge lighting? hmm actually, some of my shots here.. i delibrately adjusted the brightness and contrast to make them a bit underexposed.. thinking they may have better effect... guess its doesnt really works huh?? |

Wah Siaoon, you've done really well. I especially like the Gorgonian Shrimp & your Hantu Wide Angle (for the mood).
Practice makes perfect and you're definitely coming along very nicely. Paul is right....try to spend more time composing and thinking about your image before frying the poor creatures! Keep it up! |

hee thanks thanks. still got a long way to go.. must keep on learning from u ppl.... did try to compose my shots most of the time.. but the subjects always moving.. so keep getting OOF and had to recompose again.. guess i'm still not seasoned enuff to get into the correct focusing position quickly.. and maybe need to try diff way of compostion..
realise most of my nudi shots were quite "standard" composition.. doesnt seem appealing enuff to get a WOW feeling..as for the seahorse... really.. juz wack and wack.. w/o thinking.. coz the camera cant focus at all.. cant really see the subject with the silts and current.. was so worried i missed the seahorse... think i hang myself for that man... beivied said i was like in a trance like dat.. so unlike me... hoho.. poor seahorse.. kena tortured by me till so cham.. HEE... lessons learnt.. must take things easy.. can always come back for another try... ![]() if i stress the seahorse too much and got hurt in any way.. i 'll be living in guilt man... |
