Default Le Tour de Langkawi Reloaded

Well this is the 2005 edition of the TdL and I'm a week late. Here goes:

Day 8: Genting Highlands
Experience from last year taught me to avoid the squeeze that was the finishline in the heart of the hotels at the summit, so I came about a kilometre or two down the hill and scouted a nice spot that allowed me more shooting options.

The lead pair of Rujano (Selle Italia) and Ryan Cox (Barloworld) heave into view on the final climb up Genting.

Allez, allez, allez!

Day 9
Visiting Putrajaya for the first time we get the timing wrong and also get caught in the traffic standstill so that the Tour may pass. Fortuitously we are near enough to the race route to abandon the car and set up on the side of the road. As a result us three photographers got nearly the same shots from the same-ish angles.

It is like a colourful swarm of bees approaching you - all you begin to hear is the hiss of tires on tarmac, clicking of geartrains and the buzz of chains.

Discovery (that's Lance Armstrong's team) in their debut of the 2005 kit, with Japanese Beppu on the pointy end of things

10 seconds later, they are gone, and we're still stuck on the roadside.

Day 10: Kuala Lumpur

Koji Fukushima, by virtue of his efforts in the early stages of this edition of the Tour, has by the last stage won himself a legion of fans cheering him on in KL's packed streets.

Koji attacked early, hoping to secure the last remaining lead of the three classification leads he had before Day 8 (King of Mountains, Top Asian Rider, and Overall Lead Rider). Ultimately he retained Top Asian Rider jersey by scant seconds.

The peloton stretched out in the latter stages of the race

Graeme Brown was first across the finish line, aided by his team, and cemented his overall points victory in the 2005 Tour.
