Thread: Fix lens filter?

    Default Fix lens filter?

Damn it. My half year old Tokina lens filter just self-disassembled into 3 pieces. Outer ring, glass element and a slim metal ring. Anyone knows how to fix one?

What brand and size is your filter?
Generally, replace the glass inside the outer ring, and screw the slim metal ring back.
If the metal ring is a spring type, slowing push the ring into place.
If the slim ring is faulty, you need to change the filter. If you want to throw away the faulty filter, pm me.

    ditto above advise

BEFORE u do that please take the chance to clean the glass properly AND free the filter threads (especially the inside thread for the lock ring) .... apply a TINY TINY amount of light machine oil before screwing it back to secure the filter glass

There should be a tiny little notch on the lock ring ... use a pin to put against the notch to help it rotate back in or unscrew out
shaddap and just shoot .... up close

I think 1 more piece is lost.
Put the long piece of metal into the metal frame, then stuff the glass in.
But its really loose. There should be one more piece I think. So much for Tokina..

Except polarizers and variable ND filters, almost all filters have only 3 parts:
An outer ring, glass and that secured by a screw on ring and, more commonly by a spring clip.
The so called "long piece of metal" should go in after the glass is placed inside the outer ring..
