    Min Requirement
    - Image quality should be similar or better den 600D

    - Olympus EP-3
    - Sony Nex F3 or Nex 5N
    - Panasonic G3 (Is this the latest?)
    - Nikon J1 (Any user using this can give comments?

or should I wait for Canon EOS - M? but dunno how much will it be!

Nikon1 uses a tiny sensor. If image quality is your top concern, then the nex is best.

Yup! The image sensor is the largest in your list.

Are you looking at it as a system or as a camera+zoom type one time purchase setup?

m4/3 you listed are pretty good. You need to trade up a bit of IQ, but not too much and you can check out the pictures taken by many photographers here using m4/3. Small system, small lenses, small fast primes.

NEX is a good option if IQ is to match (actually imo, it betters your current camera). Lenses are about as big as your DSLR ones though.

V1, smallest sensor of the lot with its associated drawbacks. But that does not mean its not capable of taking nice photos.

You need to see what you are willing to trade off.
The odd additional camera suggestion from me would be Pentax K01.
APS-C, on-camera SR, small APS-C primes. But camera body is chunkier.

Won't go wrong with NEX if that's what you're looking for

The coming Fuji XE-1 promises a nice small camera with APS-C sensor and good relatively small fast lenses.
But its not going to be within your budget.

I saw a Samsung NX100 with 20-50mm collapsible lens going for 499 at Best. Combine that with a 20 or 30mm prime pancake lens for another 400 and you should be good to go!

Great recommendations from the CS'ers! Also take note of the new offerings from Olympus. The new EP-L5 is just announced and looks to be a very very strong contender in terms of shooting speed, ergonomics as well as picture quality. And from the indications I have seen, the pricing might be very very attractive as well.
