Default Canon A70 with Nikonos SB105 strobe

Hi all,

Am wondering if anyone with the A70 got a strobe working with it? What kinda slave or fiber do you guys use? I am thinking of taking over a nikonos SB105.. but I cannot seem to find any info on making the A70 work with the nikonos

If i'm not wrong, SB105's or any Nikonos type, legacy strobes will not work with A70. Reason being A70 preflashes while the SB105 doesn't ignore the preflash, though the SB105 can be optically triggered.. (or so i remember)
On the other hand C5050Z or any cam with slave trigger (single flash) capabilities could trigger it.

None the less, the Sb105 will be extremely hard to control underwater as your flash will either be full/half power dumps and a very crude way of strobe control would be to move it away/near to the subject.

The only viable way is to hand hold it. and hand holding will need *special* arm sets.

Howvwe i'm not sure about the DA2, but with this the need to purchase a Nikonos sync cord and stuff, it would be better off/cheaper getting a new/optical triggered strobe

Cheers

As far as I know... the SB105 was maufactured to mate with the Nikonos and not the modern digicams of today. Besides Sync issues, there are also mounting issues. You would be better off getting a YS-90DX or something like that. It would definitely make your u/w photo taking more manageable, comfortable and enjoyable!

All depends whether you want new or 2nd-hand.

1. New- Sea & Sea at Adelphi. Strobe + optic fibre cable + base + arms around $1100

2. 2nd-hand- Just sold my set (as above) for about $650.

Not sure about SB105 with A70. But I'm using A80 with SB80. Can switch off red eye reduction to turn off pre-flash. Flash mode on M (auto can't do slave...hm..)

wah sb80 DX with A80?? you have the subal flash housing/seacam flash housing? don't those cost close to 1000? i think with that it is more economical to get a simple/brand new underwater strobe.

hmm...thght A70/ A80 are from canon.. and SB105/sb80 are from nikon side?
can they be compatible?? wellwell.. looking into cost and functionality..
i think it''ll be better off using the right tools for the job...

any underwater strobe shld works better and safer than using a land flash.

The 2 nikon strobes are also underwater strobes, originally made for the nikonos. I know some shooters have managed to use their slave functions for a digital setup.

oops.. didnt get my facts rite.. paiseh.. but i thght sb80 is a land flash wor??
hoho.. didnt know abt 105 though..

anyway.. if u aledi own either of the strobes.. then its better for u to try to reuse them.. but if u wanna to buy a new strobe.. i think its better to invest on something that u can use in long run...
