That said, a very old camera with very very low shutter count may also not be a good thing. It may mean the camera got a new shutter (Good)... or it is constantly stored and not used much at all (No Good)...

Naturally that got newbies like me curious as to is shutter count really important?

    Make sense?
the 2nd hand price you pay should already factor in shutter actuations

WHATEVER a 2nd hand seller tells me about the shutter count, I always assume the worst that he is lying and to x3 the number he gave me to set my own expectations right ..... and the 2nd hand price is only attractive if its still a good 2nd hand price even IF I have the shutter replaced soon after or months later

for 2nd hand transactions ..... because of possible failures to the product (especially when there is no more warranty) one should aim for GREAT deals ..... not "slightly cheaper than new"
shaddap and just shoot .... up close

When I bought my 5D did not asked abt the shutter count only sent to CSC for thorough health
check to find out it was 32K plus. Actually in my opinion shutter counts are the usage by owners.

Notice most users just whack off a couple of shots just for one picture in rapid succession
imagine hundreds of pictures taken the shutter count will increase no doubt.

no, it won't have a reset function, unless you replace the whole shutter unit.

Don't mistake the file numbering for shutter count. Check the exif data, Nikon embeds the shutter count there.

FYI, for Nikon cameras, you can upload a latest image with EXIF intact to Flickr, you able to view the shutter counts in EXIF data.

    hope this help.

maybe just factor in the cost of a new shutter mechanism in the purchase price
    or just buy new

Shutter count is not really in my main purchase of 2nd hand body.

I will mind on the overall condition, cause of the shutter, can be change anytime to be bring in Service centre only.

IF you're not the business photographer, you will won't care about the actual SC.

For me even never hit until 50k SC as my breaking record in single DSLR until now as my hobbies only.

I use mac to open the NEF files with iPreview then right click on info, there will show a nikon tab and will show the total of shutter count.
