You did A16 a justice. Not a common used/discussed module but the IQ is always impressed.

To continue the GXR thread, here are some shots from the A12 28mm module, which I just sold in favor of the GR (Only have the A16 module for the GXR system now)..... but the A12 28mm has also taken some memorable photos while I had it!!! No regrets owning it....

The A12 28 is still good! Those who already have the GXR, and don't want to buy another compact, this module is really value for money now.

Could not agree more than this with you, Hjbyeo!

    Hi

Recently I have had the amazing chance of attending the media preview and gala night showing of The Phantom of the Opera, and a chance to meet and interview the cast members. Though I'm doing photography professionally, I'm attending this as a blogger (and with other bloggers) and it's not really a paid shoot - I don't mind because I'm a BIG BIG BIG Phantom of the Opera (POTO) fan ("Phan" as they call it) and I get to watch the gala night on a free invitation and get to meet the cast! So I decided not to spend any money on rental gear (which I usually do when I have major jobs...)

I decided to bring along my personal photography / reportage gear so that I will not be so weighed down (esp since I'm also watching the musical at night), which meant the Ricoh GXR A16 module, plus the Ricoh GR and the M9 (which is meant to be the main camera). I ended up using the A16 module quite a bit for the reach (85mm equivalent is my longest), and though the very dark stage made things rather difficult, especially focus, I did manage to get some photos which I'm really happy with!

Some photos to share with my GXR A16 module......

    Phantom of the Opera

Trying to get this shot of the iconic scene made me regret perhaps if i should have brought along a proper 70-200 with a DSLR. But i'm happy with this haha!

    Sing, My Angel of Music

    Christine in the Phantom's Liar

    Music of the Night

"Night time, sharpens, heightens each sensation...."

    Music of the Night II

This is as far as I can get standing at the edge of the orchestra pit with the 85mm equivalent end of the GXR A16 module. Since I can't (and normally don't anyway) get closer, I try to give each shot a sense of context by including more of the stage.

(Cont'd from previous post on The Phantom of the Opera)

Since the A16 module neither focuses fast nor is a high ISO beast, I had to pick shots which would increase my chances of getting successful shots - that means no attempting to focus on fast movement, especially of any one single individual. Anyway only 3 major scenes were enacted during the media preview, and most of them had just enough light for the A16 to focus (slowly).... all shots are uncropped.

    Convincing Carlotta

Here, Carlotta is being convinced by new theatre owers Firmin and Andre to continue singing.

    Defying the Phantom

The theatre company decided to go ahead to cast Carlotta in the lead despite the Phantom's orders to cast Christine instead.

    Masquerade!

This is one of my favorite segment of the musical and one which I correctly predicted they would show the media.....

    Masquerade Dance

Shooting with the A16 only meant wider shots with context, and definitely focusing on contrasty subjects :P

    Masquerade party on the stairs

I'm actually pretty glad I used the A16 for this - it was definitely making life harder for me with its focus, but in return I enjoyed the light weight and portability of the camera - I think mirrorless has come a long way to the point where they would be capable of replacing DSLRs for most applications (if they have not already!)

I did felt extremely limited, especially compared to the array of long lenses during the preview, but honestly I'm not sure if I can get better results than a DSLR (certainly it would be EASIER I think!)

nice bokeh. What is the history about Revuenon ? I do not much about this brand.
Did you adjust the color much ? Should the contrast and color retention be credit to the lens or GXR ?

I've never adjust colors and curve of my pictures, Micheal. For this lens, since I shot wide open @f1.2 and counter the light without lens hood so the contrast is not really that good. I did adjust a little bit contrast for the 2 above pics.

Regarding to the Revuenon brand I don't have much idea but this Revuenon 55/1.2 is the same lens as the Cosina 55/1.2 and the Ricoh 55/1.2 which I think all made by Cosina.
