Hiya,

Thanks for the kind words. Yep, I think I am addicted now - gonna have to go out and get myself an IR filter and do some experimenting. Thanks to all those in the IR/UV forum for the contributions you've made to this forum - really good information and knowledge sharing.

Hey Gooseberry. Nice meeting you. You got some great color rendering. Not bad for a first try.

Hi Gooseberry,

Great IR photo's. I like the colours and sharpness you have there.

#1 has very good tree IR colour and the sky is BLUE!
#2 is just realy good.
#3 is my favourite.

How do you get such a good blue ?
What camera and lens are you using

Hope to see more,
Cheers

Hi All,

Thanks - glad you guys like the photos from this IR newbie. Yep, I was using the D70 with a 50mm/1.8.

I must admit, the post processing I did was very minimal, I have you guys here on this forum to thank - all my pp techniques were learned from reading all the good information on this forum - all I did was do some levels and then swapped the red and blue channels using the Channel Mixer. After that I left the images as is - since the blue was nice and the yellow adds a nice surreal touch to the pics (especially #3).

Gonna go out and get an R72 filter soon - next IR outing, I'll definitely try to be there !

Picture characteristics typical of IR from a D70.

Thanks for the heads up on the price - still undecided on which sized filter I should get - have lenses with 77mm, 67mm and 52mm. Most probably get the 77mm and use step up rings, but price is a bit steep at $200+. Actually, might just get a 52mm since it's quite cheap and I have a 28-70mm lens with 52mm thread size - gotta try out this lens for IR, pretty much no ghosting or flare problems with this lens even without hood.

Hi Gooseberry,
Recommend you get a min 67mm R72. At least Kit Lens can use

That's a good recommendation from ark. Initially I bought the 52mm to use on the 35-70 f3.3. Then last month bought the 67mm, now my 52mm is in cold storage, 'cos I have a 58 to 67 step up ring and now waiting for the 52 to 58 step up so that I can use the R72 on my 35-70 as well.

The 67mm R72 has slight vignetting if you filter stack on the kit lens, so if you're getting the 67mm and gonna stack filters then gotta watch your focal length when shooting.

Yeah, if I was going to get anything - I'd probably go whole hog and get a 77mm, can use it on all my lenses then. But I don't mind getting a 52mm just to play with my 50/1.8 and 28-70 for the time being - since the 52mm is cheap.

Even with UV filter + 67mm R72 on kit lens already have slight vignetting

It's ok if you shoot from about 30mm onwards.
