This was done for a campmate of mine, whose sister married in November...
A ceremonial procession around the temple grounds, before the main rites The Sri Mariammam temple was decorated with garlands, and other traditional Southern Indian decorations for the festive mood Midway through the earlier rites... The sweet door gifts ![]() Last edited by sehsuan; 4th February 2005 at 08:49 PM. |

The videoman recording the finer details of the rituals, after the lady's and the man's own rites, to unite them as man and wife. The ceremonies include a fair lot of fire in all forms, partly due to the belief of fire representing good triumphing over evil, as well as blessing the union. ![]() This was my first time to a traditional Southern Indian style wedding, and it was indeed an interesting eye-opener, to the fellow cultures of this country we call home. ![]() All shots were taken at ISO800, including the first shot with the vignetting. Indoor photos were processed for Levels, typically. Last edited by sehsuan; 4th February 2005 at 08:54 PM. |

thanks, guys.
i was personally amazed at the plethora of colours that i saw, and i could have gone blind at the amounts vivid colours at the wedding itself. i suppose this is indeed traditional Southern Indian - where Ponggal comes to mind, as there is a celebration of good harvest, because there was a time where the congregation at the temple threw handfuls (actually much less than a handful) of rice grains - this i believe are attributed to blessing the couple. hot and humid, but what i saw, i thought it was really interesting, unlike the average local chinese wedding (western style), because practically all of us know what's going to happen next! ![]() |

thanks folks, for the compliments. i was lucky, because i was the backup cameraman, so i was told by my friend that i could do it in "my style" (which isn't really a style per se, but a reaction to actions etc) and cover it in my best attempt at reportage/photojournalism...
![]() thanks for viewing once more! ![]() |

The "videoman recording pic" is great as well. The rest pretty ok too but it would be great if the moments were better captured as the above 2. Interesting! |

Excellent Job! Personally i think you did a good job for the first time at an indian wedding. It can get real confusing with all the riturals and programms at an indian wedding and thus hard to cover some stuff. Keep it up!
