Photoshop elements is a program aimed at photographers mostly. PS 7 is for graphic designers, etc. If you are not shooting raw mode elements offers all you need. You can download plugins from lots of sites on the web as well as PS. I am using PSE 2 but PSE 3 is released with some improvements. I got PSE2 with my Canon and have used it for about a year. It is available on the web ( do a google ) or go to Photoshop site. I think It runs about $80 which is LOTS cheaper than PS 8 CS.

I just got CS as I shoot mostly in RAW and the new Cs has a plugin for Raw. If the plugin were available for elements I would stay with elements

Very curious, does Photoshop Elements come with "curve" control like PS 7 and CS?

I checked to see if there is any "curve" control and found none. You can manipulate hue, saturation, etc with sliders, also contrast and brightness. I don't know what PSE 3 has. Check the web site for more info. I had never used the hue, saturation, sliders before so I played with them last night and made a very blah photo look pretty good ( to me) then played with watercolor and grain filters to add a very interesting effect. You can see it at:
