surprised yes, for it fared not that much better than i hoped for. to me, the main bonus has to be the battery problem. 'expanded' DR is an added advantage.
otherwise, i really see no point in upgrading. the $$ is way too expensive. i'll rather spend that $$ on lenses.

upgrading? no. i think S2Pro for me, is more than adequate. i'm a convert to Fuji's SuperCCD.. however, the sensor lacks a good body.

perhaps my next camera will be a Nikon.

the fujifilm software sucks big time, although the result that can be obtained and derived from RAF is marvellous. Nikon Capture is still the best with easy, friendly user interface.

Funny that here it does not seem well received. NorthAm and Europe it's a pretty niched pro studio tool.

These are all S3 users now. 3 out of 4 are at least pro by Sg standards (or more).

here are Michael Reichmann's comments on the S3 Pro:

Quote:
When my Fuji S3 Pro mini-review first appeared a couple of months ago I was taken to task by some Fujisa (Fuji camera afficionados) complaining about my dynamic range testing methodology.

This week Thom Hogan, the undisputed authority on Nikon and Nikon-mount cameras, has published his Fuji S3-Pro review. It is much more rigorous and comprehensive than my mini-review was. But in the end, it seems to me that we came to much the same conclusions. The S3 Pro produces a modest increase in dynamic range (though you have to work for it). We also agree on the slowness of the camera, and on that fact that the resolution is very high. We disagree on the colour accuracy (I rated it much higher than Thom did), but then this could simply be a sample variation. We both agree that the camera is seriously overpriced in today's market.

If you're interested in the Fuji S3 Pro, either as a potential purchaser, or simply to know what's going on in the current world of DSLRs, you can't do better than Thom's S3 Pro review.
The images I have seen so far, esp night shots, are simply fantastic, IMO. But have to agree that it is somewhat overpriced. S2 Pro is much better value?

hi guys,

i'm fortunate enough to try out a s3pro for a good half an hour about two weeks ago. since i'm not an expert, i'll share with you my impression of the camera.

when i first look at the camera, it reminds me of my d70, except it has a vertical grip of course. but on closer look i noticed that the control dial and lcd on top of the camera look quite primitive compared to the d70. the rest of the controls are cramped into the back of the camera. i think this is a problem when one 'borrows' technology from another company. you are not going to get the latest and coolest. besides this, i'm totally impressed with the feel of the camera. sturdy but not overly heavy.

as for picture quality, it definitely delivers. the main difference between shots taken with my own camera and the s3pro is the colour saturation. just like what i read about s2pro, the s3pro colours are so rich. in fact, i've switched to vivid mode after i've handled the s3pro but the result is simply not the same.

i've attached a few photos taken with the s3pro to share with you guys. you can check out the rest of the photos here and see whether you can tell which photos are taken with the s3pro.
