Thumbs up Manfrotto 486RC2

Hi wainism

Base on your specification and requirement, I recommend Manfrotto 486RC2.

See website below.
Mnafrotto 486RC2 Ballhead

Reason.
1) Light
2) Within your budget
3) Can hold your present setup
4) Popular ballhead and good resell value in case you wanna to upgrade in the future

u can try this manfrotto head 486RC2 with quick release too

details
pretty alright for starters.
& its price is very reasonable abt $90 bucks, i am using it on my CF Feisol tripod.
if u are getting the manfrotto 190 tripod.. confirm its enuff to tahan ur existing load.. no problem.

I'm 175cm, using D70 and the Sigma 70-300mm super II, too.

On my manfrotto 055 tripod (which I think is better for your height over the 190) and 486RC2 ball head, the set up 'creeps'.

Not sure if 'creep' is the right term, but what I mean is that, after aiming at something and tighten the ball head and let go of hand, the front end of the lens will dip down a bit. Hence always got to aim higher than actual target to offset for the creeping.

May be because the lens has no tripod collar and hence the CG is not balanced.

In addition, at full 300mm, can see from the viewfinder that the setup is actually vibrating (under some wind), and hence got to add some weights to the camera + lens to stablise it.

is it possible to get an off-set plate to counter the CG?

Offset plate? I think the more appropriate item is tripod collar for the len, which I think the 70-300 doesn't have.
