Default Tamron AF70-300MM F/4-5.6 or Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO MACRO SUPER II ?

looking for a 70-300 lens.
considering over these 2:

1) Tamron AF70-300MM F/4-5.6 or
2) Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO MACRO SUPER II

specs are almost identical.. so really dunno which to go for.

pls gimme some comments...
thanks.

the sigma is apparently more popular (i got one too) and the pics are ok. At $320 brand new or $280 second hand.....you can't go too wrong!

can't say anything bad about the sigma and i don't think anyone can once you factor in the price. Unbeatable value in my opinion as a starting long zoom.

i tried the tamron one, very slow and noisy AF motor. Sigma wasnt horribly fast, but it was a bit quieter. optics, i think they are on par. if u search in google or others, they say a lot of good things about the sigma.
cheers, wicak

is there any existing users of this tamron lens?

probably because the sigma 70-300 is a good value lens for individuals who wanted a 300m zoom but didn't want to blow out their bank accounts?

and when they upgrade to a ED or nikon whatver lens, they sell the 70-300mm on buy/sell....allowing others to pick up a good lens at a good price.

the nikon 70-300mm ED is of course, a nice lens, but you could get 2 sigmas for the price of the nikon. again, it depends on one's budget and preference.

wouldn't we all love a AFS,ED,VR,IF,etc Nikon all the time? We Do!! but our wallets may not permit!

i was offered the Nikon 70-300D AF for about 500sgd (new) with no warranty. the sigma was about 350 with a warranty.
since im still on the newbie side of things i preferred the sigma and save up for a ED VR lens rather than the Nikon AF D.

my $0.02.

ciao..

In terms of build quality - the Nikon 70-300 AF-D ED lens beats the Sigma 70-300 APO Super Macro II, but for the other considerations like image quality/optics etc it's certainly debatable on which is better - I guess both are on par, with me personally leaning towards the Sigma.

So consider whether it is worth paying almost double in price for the better build quality - especially if you are only using this lens as a stop gap solution on your way towards a better quality and more expensive telephoto zoom in future.

No. got no VR/IS, no gizmos, just a simple zoom lens. maybe/perhaps you shoot in really low light all the time and then the lens hunts and hunts and hunts and makes so much noise zooming in-zooming out and trying to acquire a focus.
