Default Something unique coming real soon?

My Little Pentax Prediction - PentaxForums.com

Most of the PF people may not be that well informed with real info.
But I don't think Benjamin Karnek is just a nobody

Well, if it's "just another APSC", I'm more looking forward to the new DA zoom! I'm predicting that it'll be a remake of the A35-105.. :P

He 'smells' a custom Pentax sensor algorithm, that out resolves anything avaliabe now....
    I just hope its true.

Maybe like the fuji x-pro1 sensor, no AA filter and such stuff.
Lets see what comes out at photokina

It will not happen now. Doesn't really make any business sense. APS-C is the way to go. FF market is rather small and not as affordable as one thinks. Not sure why some thinks Pentax can make a very cheap FF. Don't think it will be cheap or very cheap.

I really hope it will be an vastly improved K5 with very good AF (for both LV and PD) and better quality Full HD video (with more controls). I really want an articulated screen!!!! :PPPP

But if an entry level full frame is released... it will be really difficult for Pentax to step in the full frame market IMO

i think there is no right or wrong. With the right concept and targeting the right marketing audience. Having a value for money entry FF may help gain more market share. just like the newly converts who buy into their current apsc system now. i am pretty sure all new pentaxian who buy into the system, not because of marketing but rather by research. u need to introduce somthing decent to build up a sizable market base. Only then all the good stuff can materialize with future release.

They has been on the same level ... they have not increase in sales or market share, through they are best in market price, wheather sealed, best value maybe they would look at premium market in the future..

thats a pity, i though there are growth in their market share with all the recent release. At least from singapore prospective there seems to be more adopter with the k5 n k30 release. Maybe you are right too. just release a super premium state of art camera that will shock the whole industry might quickly up the sales figure.

Why would a premium product increase market share? By definition luxury/high end products will always be a niche market. Otherwise Leica would be the biggest camera manufacturer & Ferrari will sell more cars than Toyota.

Besides Pentax already has a super premium product in the 645D (>10k). While a premium product may create a talking point & create brand awareness, there is no guarantee this will translate to market share. In the 90s Apple released the 20th anniversary Mac, which sold for US$10,000 - flopped big time. The company only turned around with the introduction of the iPod, which while not the cheapest in the market, was certainly very affordable. Nice design & great user experience was only part of the reason for its success, good marketing was also very important. So much so that the Steve Jobs reality distortion field became overused (IMHO) to explain Apple's success.

I do not think it is exactly about creating market share... but to increase exposure of Pentax products themselves IMO...

which will in turn drive up sales for other products...

Which was what I was suggesting - simply introducing a super premium product may well increase the profile of the brand, but past experience from both Pentax (with the 645D) & Apple (a whole slew of disastrously overpriced computers) have shown that this alone will not drive sales of other products.

I would think that having a 645D (even a non working one under glass) in a store, would help lift the perception about Pentax.

Uncle to saleman : ' Wah! This camera is so Big (big = good), how much ar?'
    Salesman : $13000 (uncle - expensive= good)
    Uncle : 'wah!' (Steps back)
Uncle : then how much is this smaller one (points to a K30)
    Salesman : $900
Uncle : ok. I will buy this one

Simon is correct. If you see the front view there is no lens release button . . . But if you see very closely, it is a photoshopped K5/7 DSLR with a superzoom lens, so I will not look into it for any truth.
