be a man, do the right thing!

as long you are doing the right thing, what bother so much about this?

anyway, you can always said, "老人家要多多保重身体,火气不要太大“

if they keep nagging, they are just making a fool of themselves in the public.

agree. nowadays 敬老尊贤 is pretty much passe. does not mean being a senior(regardless in terms of experience, age etc), you automatically gain respect from others.

respect is earned, not asked for.

I don't see it as they shd earn my respect as I'm just a stranger to them. But I feel they shd conduct themselves properly. If not they will lose my respect. By default, I will respect elders. But if they don't behave in a respected manner, I won't respect them.

Are you saying every senior citizens does that ??

I have gave up my seats to those who need it more too many times to count.... and NEVER have I been called names... all I get was alot of Thank You... don't behave like the whole world is up against you just because of one slightly unsound of mind Auntie you see in STOMP. One person or a small group of people DOESN'T represent the WHOLE group...

thats why there is seat, I do not bother to take the seat anymore... in face if there is a choice to take the bus, I will gladly do so... less trouble...

For me... I'll take the seat as long as its not those corner seats... and if I'm tried... I'll even take those corner seats... because I'm also a paying customer. The only difference... I don't pretend to be asleep and will automatically give up the seat to any one in more need than me as long as he/she is near my seat...

crazy world out there in MRT...
This is the sort of situation I am talking about. I couldn't quite hear what they are talking. That auntie not so old but demanding for seats. After getting the seat still "cry father cry mother". I think this gracious me campaign has breed a new type of character - you owe me a seat. Look ard next time, you will notice quite a few of these who will give you the dirty look if they are not being offered a seat, any seat, not just the reserved ones. The focus used to be on those who don't give their seats up. I think the ugly behavior has turned around to those who demand for seats.

BTW, the girl is quite cute leh. I will definitely step in and help her if I am around. I will also teach her how to manage conflict. Maybe she can teach me how to take photo for ****

LTA should clarify if those seats are reserved or should be given up out of good will. Afterall, reserved means no one other those that the seats are reserved for should sit there.

its a certain age group of uneducated we have that is causing most of the fuss about this from my opinion. they like to rush, fight for seats, squeeze and push people around when they are on the train. but they never realise its wrong, nor bad because they were taught this way. they now feel that the reserved seat is rightfully theirs, because the sign says so and they don't understand the real meaning.
but the younger generation is different. they know that its an embarrassing thing to do if they act like that so they will try to curb it in certain ways, at least it does not show even if they are very keen to sit.
but that said everyone has a good or bad day. sometimes a little tolerance doesnt kill, and most importantly doesnt embarrass you as much.

Not really true... due to bad upbringing some younger generation start acting kiasu as well, snatching seat, standing in front of the door when train arrived and people haven't alight want to squeeze in the train, the worst kind are those keyboard warriors like to take picture than post online yet they do not practice whatever action they condemned...

So if they do that, what do you do?

There is no need to care too much about such things. I'm sure when you gave up your seat you didn't do so with the vision of the old man/pregnant lady/little kid kowtowing to you with tears of gratitude streaming down their face. You did so because you felt it was the right thing to do (I hope). In that case, even if they nag and insult my parents, I would just tell them calmly that they should examine their own actions and move to another place. If they stand up and follow then it'd be quite funny, especially if they had asked me to give up my seat so that they can sit down. I'm sure all the onlookers would know who's in the wrong and my conscience would be clear.
