The discussion is moot. Both have their good lens and their bad lenses, and I dare say the Canon Ls are as good as the Nikon pro AFS lenses.
If you want the absolute best, Laika, CowZais etc are the ones. ![]() Regards CK |

Oh here we go.
[1] What brand have better image quality and is cheaper? Hmm... that's a toughie. Sounds a lot like the old, which manufacturer is giving me the best quality and the lowest price question. Right... get real. [2] You know that Laicar (sic) quality is awesome? How come, cause someone said so? Or because you're an optical expert? If so, how come you don't know if Nikon or Canon make better glass? Sorry, this really does sound like I have a beef with you, but I really don't. My beef is with this unquestioning presumption that Leica is awesome. [3] Yes this has been flogged way too much. [4] Mate, if you are considering switching, then you need to have very, very specific needs to justify it. For example, you might need a 50/1.0 lens or a 300/2.0 lens. If you don't have a specific need, then as the saying goes, if you have to ask... [5] You're on a budget of between $250-$300, but you'll contemplate changing your camera system to accommodate that. I don't suppose you realise that even with the cheapest bodies you'll probably take a cash hit that will slash that budget in half? So unless Canon or Nikon make lenses that are 60% or more cheaper than the other, which they don't, then it really doens't make sense for such a small sum under consideration. |

Charged affordably? I think it is none of them. They are both expensive.

,yet agree that their quality is good. I never use Laicar too, but I use CowZais 80/2.8. All german lenses are praised by many, are they really awesome? from my observation, there are points which make them earn that credit:- All of their lenses are well designed, and maintain its quality. While japanese lens manufacturers are chasing over the low-end consumer as well, their lens quality vary widely. You can find excellent Nikon/Canon lenses, but can also find bad lenses as well. - German has long history as a decent lens maker, far before the Japanese did. Even some of Japan manufacturers at their early days actually imitate the german design. e.g.: The legendary Nikkor 105/2.5 portrait lens, is actually started using Zeiss Sonnar design, then changed to Schneider's Xenotar design after the AIS model. - German design emphasize on a pleasant image rendering, they pay attention to blur and bokeh. While Japanese design emphasize on the sharpness. |
