I mean first HDTV pic..........
For those interested to know and want to compare the differences. To me it's like Pano WA shot vs tele.... ISO80, f/5.2, 1/500sec, handheld, 6mm FL. ![]() Here is the normal pic taken at immediately after it. ISO80, f/5.6, 1/500sec, handheld, 6mm FL. ![]() |

This is so odd... From what I see, there's no difference in how much the camera took (The wider shot did not capture any more than the normal shot). Does that mean that somehow the picture was distorted in a way?
![]() But the normal shot captured more of the "bottom" though... |

Other than saving space and straight out of camera view on a HDTV, I find this feature useless. The HDTV mode is merely a crop from the 5MP sensor if I am not wrong. Well, rather take a full picture and crop later for me.

To see the differences, view both pics on the HDTV or 16:9 TV. I can sent the original size pics to you.
Basically, the HDTV pic will fit nicely on 16:9 TV, without any stretches. The normal one will! |

it's a crop. pay more attention to the sky and "Y" intersection of the road. You'll notice that the HDTV version got chop off at the top and bottom.

Both picture show the same perspective and cover the same width. The lens can't cover more than what it is design.
The main advantage in HDTV mode is for those who have wide screen TV (16:9) such as PLASMA TV and will like to view picture on their TV. HDTV picture will fill up the entire screen with no black bar at all. The normal picture will have black bar on both right and left side. For those who view normal photo on their wide screen TV with "FULL" mode, you will not view the picture in it's correct aspect ratio and objects in the picture will be stretch wider. Yes you can crop the normal photo to the HDTV equivalent. In HDTV mode, all the trouble of cropping is done for you nicely and will fill up nicely on your wide screen TV without much effort from the user. Panasonic Plasma TV has a SD card slot as well, so if you take a picture in HDTV mode and slot the SD card into the TV, the picture will fill up the entire screen nicely. How useful is HDTV mode ? That depends on your needs and what you have. For those who have a mixed of HDTV picture and normal picture and do not want to continuously switch the TV display mode (FULL <--> NORMAL) to view the picture in it's correct aspect ratio, you can consider a modified XBOX loaded with XBMC and Hi-Def AV pack. PS2 probably can do similar thing but no idea how. Disclaimer: I don't work for Panasonic, Microsoft, Sony, XBOX, PS2 or XBMC and don't sell any of them. I'm NOT encouraging you to have your XBOX modded as it is now illegal to do that in Singapore. Don't ask me where to get it modded as it is now ILLEGAL. Have Fun with Technology ! |

Perhaps these would give better idea what I am trying to say.
Using both pics at same height perspective. Note: the subjects in both pics are almost similar in size. Normal 4:3 ![]() HDTV 16:9 ![]() Last edited by LifeWorld; 28th January 2005 at 03:16 PM. |

OK, looking and examinate it again, think the original image from sensor is cropped top and bottom, seems like left and right no cropping. |
