Vince, There is no mention of any studio shoot either, should we just assume there is no studio shoot?
Anyway, it is also noted in the course content there is : Location (indoor and outdoor) So I guess that means there is an outdoor shoot, or else how to get a full grasps of location shoot? I am glad they finally included Makeup fee, transport fee, model fee, and all other possible fees into the course and not becoming another Hidden Cost course ...... By the way, is John Tan an instructor at PSS? If not how would he know makeup and transportation is included? Everyone here with me? ![]() |

in "Location (indoor and outdoor)" you would notice its under "Lesson One".
When you see Lesson one, its obviously a theory lesson, unless you can interpret that lesson to mean covering ALL of those points PLUS a indoor sesion PLUS an oudoor session - highly unlikely. if anything, its just a briefing on how to select locations and/or things to consider for indoor/outdoor photography. this is supported by Lesson two, which states that it is a "PRACTICAL". no mention of indoor or outdoor was stated here. it is reasonable to assume that its an indoor session finally, as superman has pointed out, an outdoor nude shoot is rather unlikely, especialy by the PSS. My point is to wonder how "John Tan" arrived at the conclusion he did.

Sorry for k.p.o to answer behalf for PSS and to my friend ' salt egg superman' but I do know that they don't provide Hidden Cost course for sure as I'm one of the member of PSS. I know their working style.
As for this course, confirm there is no outdoor shoot...only for theory part if read carefully unless....maybe ... specially request to shoot it (rural area) oversea if willing to pay for a premium...oops not again...sorry...

I don't know about the no hidden cost course part ..... look at the Fashion photography course they are giving ....
No model, no make up, no transport, no anything. Everyone is expected to pay at least another $50 per session for model, makeup and transport ...... Is that classified as hidden cost? I still do not know how to take fashion photography without a model and makeup........ http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=109486 Last edited by blurblock; 27th January 2005 at 05:34 PM. |

I had Never taken any course with them before, but from previous threads they post, it seems like they have lots of hidden cost. Thus the question posed by me, are there hidden cost? They can provide the model, but no makeup and/or no transport. PSS is a well established organisation, I do hope the live up to their name as a representative of Singapore's photographers , a promoter of photography to Singapore, and not becoming another money grabbing organisation which often states they are "Non-profit Organisation". "this is supported by Lesson two, which states that it is a "PRACTICAL". no mention of indoor or outdoor was stated here. it is reasonable to assume that its an indoor session" In my view, if you teaches both indoor and outdoor location shoot, then you should include both indoor and outdoor practical sessions. But Vince here says it is reasonable to just assume it is an indoor session, which I sincerely doubt should be the case. Unless of course it is written there as "PRACTICAL -- Indoors Only". Or else, IMHO, I think it should contain outdoor location shoot as well. |

although I would think that both an indoor and outdoor session would be necesssary to properly support the theory syllabus in lesson 1, its not likely because:
(a) few nude shoots are done outdoors (b) unlikely they can squeeze both indoor and outdoor in a single "lesson", unless of course they have lesson 2a and lesson 2b. It is noted that you did not reply to my post, not only to the paragraph quoted by you, but also the hypothesis relating to the fact that lesson 1 is likely to be a theory lesson. nevertheless, perhaps it would be a good idea for those interested to call PSS and get them to reply in the thread ![]() Cheers!

Hi everyone.
No more speculations. I am here to clear the air. i am indeed surprised that the thread blew a bit out of proportions and there are so many speculations. Just to clarify, the course consists of 3 lessons, a total of 6 hours. The first lesson ( 2hours) is on theory. There is no shoot during the first lesson. The second lesson (3 hours) consists of a studio shoot (indoor of course) of a model. This sessions is also a crash course on studio lighting, just to get started. We wrap up with a photo critique session and participants shall appreciate image editing. This may last beyond 1 hour. Shooting nude in the outdoor in Singapore is illegal, for your information. The first lesson is critical as it equip you with relevant info to be a responsible photographer, in a way, to protect yourself as well as the model's interest. |

And yes, the fee include the model fees. The shoot is conducted indoor, hence no transport is needed.

PSS is a non-profit organisation. For courses that has fees that include model fees, the participants are not required to pay for the model. Of course, if the participants would like to shoot beyond the stipulated time, the model has to be reimbursed and the participants are willing to pay for more. This is a fair game. Certainly, other costs like "makan" and transport are not provided. It is a personal expense. |

We are transparent with the cost, and there is no hidden cost. In a way, it depends on how you define hidden costs. Obviously things like transport and makan are not considered hidden costs and they are not part of the fees. There is no end to the definition of hidden cost. And of course, the course fees does not include film and processing. We are keeping the course fee low so that it is affordable. Some students have cars or bikes, and usually we have car pooling. 2 cars are enough to fetch the whole class. |
