I am toying with the idea of creating a custom external battery for the S2/S3pro users for a couple of reasons.
1. the battery holder is flimsier than my Tamiya remote control car's. 2. 4 x 1.2V @2500 mAH is definitely weaker than many many current DSLR's. Objective : a sturdy reliable external battery pack (Sanyo core?) with professional hand finished shrink-wrap terminated packaging. Power should be around 5V @ 5000 - 6000 mAH? 1.2 meter wire to link from camera to pocket/backpack? complete with quick charger (2 hour fast charge) Question : How much would a current user pay for this? might be worth a group project (massive meticulous DIY if you ask me) if response is good. |

The purpose of the custom battery is for sessions where you'd like to do a field tethering of the machine to a laptop OR when you wanna use the live preview mode for outdoor macro work.
2500's may not even be enough. Although I haven't gotten round to testing them yet. |

If thats the case buy an inverter and a A/C adapter and long cable and you can run it all day from your car battery , buy a generater and you take it deep into the jungle and shoot for hours on end .

car battery? actually you need more than just an inverter. you need a current regulator to keep a steady juice rate of no more than 2Ah @ 5V.
jungle+car battery = leaving car battery in jungle after shoot due to exhaustion. |
