Thread: Good lens for street candids - Olympus m43

Default Good lens for street candids - Olympus m43

Hi guys, I'm very new to photography. Got myself a EP3 early this year. Currently looking for a lens for candids, which can give fast AF. Would prefer one of certain focus length, as I like to shoot without being caught. Haha..

The Oly 75mm f1.8 really tempts me with its sharpness, beautiful bokeh and fast AF, but the price tag is a big issue for a poor me. Tried researching for a substitute instead, but couldn't really decide. Need kind advice from you experts but there.

I'm hoping to get this for my overseas holiday trip. Wish to capture memorable moments...

Best would be to ask in the m4/3 forum section instead of the general section

the best lens is the one you have. The next best is the one you plan to buy
Why? because don't have to pay more $

    good day!

All the lenses avaliable can do streets/candids.
Shooting w/o being caught depends a lot on technique than just focal length.
Even with a long lens like the 75/1.8 you mentioned, the subject can still see that you are aiming it at him/her from the working distance
    (probably approx 4-5m for a 1/2 body shot )
At the end of the day, you need a bit of guts.

In fact, sometimes a WA lens is easier to 'fake it' than a long one, as you can pretend to be shooting ahead of the subject, but actually he/she is at the side of your FOV.

    On a budget, try the 14/2.5; 20/1.7; 45/1.8
else, just use the kit lens.

I just came back from Australia... and uses the OM-D paired with a 25mm f1.4 lens eighty percent of the time. No problem at all.
I am not a photographer, just someone who happened to have a couple of cameras.
    My lousy shots
