Default Canon in 3rd Position with 1,805 Patents Registered for 2004

17 January 2005

Preliminary results from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office put Canon in 3rd position with 1,805 patents for 2004 after IBM and Matsushita. Canon has been in the top 3 positions for more than a decade as a result of their commitment in Research & Development. On average, Canon invests 10% of sales in R&D in a wide range of fields annually.

not surprising. Canon has a wide range or products and for photography related products, they generally have been one of the faster movers in introducing new concepts.

In 2004, Canon introduced 19 new cameras.
In 2005, Canon will introduce 20 new cameras.

The same 20 designs but with 1Mb more pixels plus a higher numbered digic processors.

Well lets see wads shows up this year... hopefully a cheaper diigtal solution will arrive soon...or at least something to drive prices lower =)

All these patents is going to kill Nikon sooner or later, because whatever good ideas they patented, Nikon is not going to be able to make use of them

Anyway hopefully Nikons come up with something to pit against the 20D!

i'm hanging on to nikon becoz i have free lenses to use.... but once i have earn enough for my own arsenal of lens then i will switch to canon...hahaha
