Default Sigma DG 500 Super: Using the AF assist lamp without firing off the flash???

HI,

I was wondering if i could use the flash with my 300D to focus in low light using the sigma dg super's inbuilt AF assist lamp without it firing off in a museum?
IT seem to help tremendously when focusing in low-light with the sigma assist lamp, but it seems i cant use it without activating the flash too,

pls help, thanks

I have tried this combo (300D hecked & set the CF), the flash fire off. But when I mount a 550ex that 300D, the flash did not fire.

My guess is there is some comp. problem with the sigma flash.

OT : Can use the pop up flash in the 300D to trigger the sigma (set to slave mode). Just set the flash channel to 0. 550ex does not have channel 0, so it cant be used in this way.
