Thread: To attack Singapore just need screwdrivers

Exactly what I was thinking. A screwdriver can be a dangerous weapon. The thing is, weren't there other soldiers around when he was robbed? Guess we have to wait for the details.
Also wondering what the motive was.

The NSF was doing his SOC... which mean a rifle which is not loaded... your bayonet is not lock onto the rifle... and your rifle is sling onto you back. If someone walk near me and stick a screw driver into my neck... my unloaded, un-bayonet-ed rifle that is sling tightly behind my back is pretty useless.

Unlike certain countries... S'pore is safe enough that most of us doesn't think its strange or dangerous to have someone approach you even at night. Beside... I read somewhere that the man was almost immediately caught by the other people around the SOC course...

What is the motive? (if any).

Did the NSF provoke Mohammad Ridzuan Jamari with verbal insults and the rifle, causing the latter to react wildly? The report is not clear. It is an unknown. This kind of half-baked news report is quite useless.

Mohammad Ridzuan Jamari wants to do what with the rifle? Can he bring it out of Pasir Laba camp? Surely he would have to hide it and kill or silence the NSF who would otherwise alert the guards at the gate. If Mohammad Ridzuan Jamari had no plans to bring the rifle out of the camp or is unable to do so, then what is the point of robbing the rifle?
No details of how he robbed the rifle from the NSF. Did he quietly sneak up to the NSF or did he confront the NSF face to face and demand the rifle?

Maybe Mohammad Ridzuan Jamari thought the rifle was loaded. With an empty magazine, it is not able to shoot anything. He cannot create any havoc with it.

Is it a case of someone run amok?

Is it a case of a dress rehearsal for AlQaeda to test and demonstrate clearly that this can be done? For future similar robbery of assault rifles at other places outside of the camp. Presumably they have sources for the 5.56 live rounds.

A very long time ago, SAF had a mantra that goes something like: "We protect our weapons like our lives". Guess this is no longer taught to new NSF.

Under military law, robbery of assault rifle from a soldier is a serious offence. This is not a namy-pamby purse snatching case. But they need to look carefully at the causation. Did the NSF provoke Mohammad Ridzuan Jamari?

If Mohammad Ridzuan Jamari had tried to rob a rifle from a Gurkha, the latter would have drawn his kukri knife (once drawn the blade must taste blood) and done the necessary to let Mohammad Ridzuan Jamari know that he picked the wrong guy to rob.

During Close Combat Training (CCT (which we term it as "bullshitdo")), must keep shouting "DIE! DIE! DIE!" or "KILL! KILL! KILL!". No shout loud, loud must go drop twenty and be punching bag.

Sparing sessions always seems like two pigs wrestling with each other.

One of my buddies ever sliced his fingers off with the Victorinox Swiss Army knife. Severed a number of tendons and nerve endings.

Ended up undergoing microsurgery for reconstruction.

Maybe hiding behind the building taking a smoke break, away from the sights of the Sergeant....

SISPEC SOC Grounds (or whatever its name is now) doesn't have buildings around. the only time it's ever used is for SOC or SOC Trainings (obviously). so the only way the NSF could be robbed of his rifle is either when he was doing the SOC, or afterwards when he was shagged out and tired

It's a different story when a rifle is loaded.

Even the officers are very nice to cadets when the rifle is loaded.

(not so sure if it's the same in Singapore Army )

    Hmm... Lets see...

IIRC, some bobo king in the hole next to me got whacked several times in the head while getting shouted in the most colourful of Hokkien vulgarities during our first live firing in BMT for pointing his rifle towards my foxxie hole. Yup, they are indeed nicer than usual.

Said bobo king later became Bionix 40/50 vehicle commander and almost overturned his vehicle.
