Brand, Model, Why you choose this product?

    1. Icarus - Manfrotto 322RC2 - Pistol action grip allows super quick adjustments, Able to customize for left and right hand use. Able to convert to a vertical 222RC2. Able to take my Bigma + Flash (see my avatar)

    2. kex, AcraTech Ultimate ballhead, becoz it is very unique & support heavy load up to my LF cam .

    3. bernardsia, Markins M-10, I will never need to buy another ballhead again.

    4. Dennis, Markins M-10.

    5. Ian, Graf Studioball, features a full bearing race on the panning axis making it one smooth ballhead
Burzynski Protec, The toughest head I've ever used, bar none. Zero flexure under extreme load conditions
Wemberley Gimbal, Superb performance, though expensive and of limited use unless you run long lenses.

    6. RossChang, Acratech Ultimate ballhead, Decent load capacity, lightweight. Markins M10 is at least 50% heavier that the AUB.

I think Eastgear sells these 2 ballheads... Check them out.

I'm also sourcing for a ballhead (and was looking at the Giottos with the Acra-Swiss clamp), but now the Markins...

Bought a brandless $60 ballhead that comes with manfroto style quickrelease for my Feisol CF tripod... Seems to work quite perfectly. Maybe Markins, Arca and Acratech is really alot better, but will only consider them when my $60 ballhead fails on me.

    hey Ross,

You seem to have your facts wrong.

The AUB weighs at 450g with a max load of 11.4kg

The Markins M-10 weighs at 510g with a max load of 40kg

The handling of an AUB...how come nobody has commented on that?

    Hey KT,

I have two of those wimberly P5 plates from Cathay. I thought they were a ripoff at $115. That was until I bought a generic arcatech plate at $75. It's garbage.

Now that I know better. I will pay the $115 anytime.

The wimberly P5 generic plates will hold your 70-200 without any problems. Since they are generic plates, it can be used on any camera. Worth buying.

Wimberly P5 is good as a camera plate. But for a lens collar for something such as 70-200VR, one should get P20 with SW100 instead. See:

    Hey Berbard

    Thanks for the information.
I do saw and try the Wimberly P5 yesterday.
It fit and hold wells onto KangRinpoche and Markins ballhead.
I'm just not too sure about it yesterday about Wimberly plate as there are other type of models in the market.
Now, I can get it without any worries.

That was the advice the shop gave and encouraged me to buy the costlier P10 or P20. But I bought two P5 instead for practical reasons. It never even shifts a teeny bit when mounted on a 70-200 with 2x teleconvertor. For lenses bigger then that, I can't comment since I have no experience.

How much does the P-20 cost?...

I got a Foba Superball M1 ballhead w/plate for the Feisol CF tripod (same as KT's ).

    Weight: 400-410g w/plate (less than 300g w/o plate)
Load: 8kg (should be okay for 4kg gear).

'Cause the CF tripod's load capacity is 7kg, I think this ballhead is a good match

I'm done with tripod hunting, at least for now

    Cheers!
