    I might be wrong.

    But I think that you would only resort to pull or push processing when you have only one roll of film left, but the ISO speed of that film may not be the correct speed for your shooting requirements.

    Else, unless the need for a specific artictic look on your photographs, there is really no need to go through the hassle.

    is this possible: shooting half a roll with no push/pull,
    then the other half with, say, pull 1 stop.

    then tell them to cut the roll agar agar in half and do it separately ... doesn't sound like they're gonna do it ...
