I don't understand why they'll have to "hide in the storeroom on several occasions to escape from debtors knocking on their doors"? Can't they just keep quiet? What difference would it make?

Forgive me for saying but some of the statements just sounded so exaggerated such as "... even after a search around the whole house, the couple could only gather S$1.60..."

    The moral of the story?

"You have to go overseas to make it"?

Maybe it's sounds ridiculous to you. But it's a true thing which happened to me and my wife. We were living at in a corridor hdb unit. So when debtors come for us. My wife and even I will freak out as the debtors will peep into the window "folds" to check of anyone is at home. Plus some debtors are not even the "legal" kind if you get my drift. so their way of asking money is not very "polite."

As for $1.60 part, when u come to a stage when you are totally in debt. No money for 2-3months, and you still need to go to office and work. Would you be desperate enough to search around the house for loose changes, places like your jeans and trousers or even your bags for that 10,20cents small change? Yes I did.

I understand the hardwork part.. that's what everyone goes thru when they start their own business (especially if you start from scratch)

Wish you continuous success and may your story become inspiration for others who need it.

10 years ago, i am the same situation..... and really, walk back home from marine parade to bedok south.

when really no money..... 10 cents also dun have.

now a lot better then the past, so i learned few things:

    1. never spend money when you yet to earn.
    2. never commit before ready.
    3. plan far.
    4. be humble, even now a lot better, i never boast how much i earn now. (also not much compare to many)
    5. 百忍成金。
    6. love what you have now.
    7. dun be too ambitious, learn that simple life is what we want actually.
    8. save, and save and save........

sometimes, hard work is one thing, luck is another..... my luck came when i am really in deep hole..... maybe like, when all was really bad, nothing can be more bad..... the all things will move upwards only...... cannot go down deeper already.....

I can totally understand your situation and well done for not giving up and make it happen.

Its not easy but if you are desperate enough, you can make it happen. Problem with most is, they never so desperate, or desperate but don't do anything and compliant.

I am coming from a family where having enough for 3 meals were a daily issue when I was young and I truly understand what poor means.

Real reason why when you go out of your comfort zone, you will do better, such as when u go overseas, you have nothing and u either done it or you fail.

When u sit in your comfort zone, there is no true motivation.

I am a little different from David, I prefer take risk (calculated risk) that is and grow the business to it's full potential.

You need to manage your finances and as David says, don't spend the money that you don't have or yet to make.

Be contented is good but don't get too comfortable and stay in your comfort zone.

    Wish you all the best.

    Regards,

    Hart

Thanks for posting and best wishes for the future.

I think it's good that photographers come out and talk about the rough and rocky road they've travelled.

We've read posts asking about secrets of success in professional photography before even trying.
