Most TC will provide AF when use on your camera...
I use Tamron SP 2x Converter with my Dynax 7. Kenko PRO300 or Tamron SP are ok... Minolta TC will only work with Prime lenses from 200 to 600mm. If you are thinking of using zoom then the only way is using above TC. Regards, Hart |

Thanks for that but a jessops 2x tele-converter I have been using will not AF passed a certain range so I have to keep going to manual for distance shots to get them in focus which can be a pain. I have been told only to get a dynax tele-converter but I can't seem to find one any Idea's

if AF is really a concern, perhaps you should consider a 1.4x TC. the higher the TC (x) the lower the chance of AF as the amount of light reaching your AF sensor is greatly reduced.

Actually, I would like to ask ..... what lens are you using? The f/stop more specifically ...... if your lens has very high f/stop, there might not be autofocus due to high f/stop.

Tamron SP2x is about US$179 from BH
If you are using 4.5 to 5.6 lens, don't use any converter... effective f-stops become f9 or f11, I don't think it is very usefull... Converter generally usefull for f2.8 lens. I only use TC with either 80-200 f2.8 APO G or 100mm f2.8 D Macro. Hart |

The f/stops are about a 9 or 11 when used with a converter and thats when its out of focus but as soon as I TAKE THE CONVERTER OFF it becomes normal with no problems to the AF

Yup, you are using a f/4.5 - f/5.6 lens, thus when you try to use a Teleconvertor, you lose all the autofocus capabilities. Teleconvertors are often use with Lenses that have big apertures such as f/2.8 so when converted it would be at around f/5.6. Most camera bodies do not autofocus with teleconvertors once it reaches f/8 and above.
Thus even if you get a 1.4x teleconvertor, using your f/5.6 lens you will get f/8 an there is a chance your body cannot autofocus. |

Another problem with TC is the viewfinder getting too dim for f9 or f11, it is extremely difficult to focus accurately.
if you have a 300mm f5.6 lens, don't try to add another TC as the 600 f11 isn't any useful unless in full bright day... Work around how you can achieved a picture, change the perspective and things like that instead using the TC to reach... Don't find an excuse to not taking picture because you don't have a particular gear... think differently.. hehe... my 2 cents worth.. Hart |

I'm of the opinion that even with a f5.6 lens u can use a TC. It depends on what u shoot. If u do shoots in bright day light, no problems at all.... like if u go shoot in the zoo during the day.... it's a cheap option rather than getting a f/2.8 lens (which costs a bomb)...
