Hi Fellas,
What are the prime lenses (original minolta or 3rd party) available for AF minolta camera models? |

Yes, the "old" 135mm 2.8 is a cracking lens. I've used it for many a portrait. It's right up there with my 85mm 1.4 in terms of crips, contrasty images.
Moreover, it's fine on my 7D. And, with the 1.5 magnification I've ended up with what's effectively a 200mm 2.8 for $100 US. Cheap at twice the price. Highly recommended, if you can find one. |

Saw a 135mm on sale here but hesitated. But I don't think it was the STF that Magnus mentioned. |

50mm is a must if you ask me..
Cheap and sharp... 50mm f1.7 or 1.4 version both are very nice... Hart |

I think 1/3 stop...
Well 1.7 is good enough... 1.4 is slightly handier if you have the $$$ for it.. 1.4 is about 3 times the price of 1.7 Hart |

not 3x, around 2x. The 50mm f1.4 can be bought around S$330 - 350 new.

f/1.4 + 2/3 stop is f/1.76. Others round it up to f/1.8, KM choose to put it as f/1.7.
Edit: f/1.4 + 1/2 stop is f/1.66. Cheers! Last edited by UY79; 9th January 2005 at 07:37 PM. |

1.4 * 1.12 (1/3 stop) = f/1.568 = f/1.6 1.4 * 1.19 (half stop) = f/1.67 = f/1.7 .... 1.4 * 1.25 (2/3 stop) = f/1.75 = f/1.8 ....... 1.4 * 1.4 (1 stop) = f/1.96 = f/2 1.4 * 2 (2 stop) = f/2.8 Calculating in half stops goes like this : 1 --> 1.2 --> 1.4 --> 1.7 --> 2.0 --> 2.4 --> 2.8 --> 3.4 --> 4 --> 4.8 --> 5.6 ... etc etc ...Just goes on and on and on ![]() Those are just estimation, due to lots and lots of decimal places to get it correct . |

hehe... wrong calculation...
sorry... I just like the feel better on the f1.4 and the glass is bigger than the f1.7. Anyway, and extra 1/2 stop is not too bad... handy when you need it... but I don't use widest aperture much... You don't really need the 1.4 version. But if you have spare cash and want to spend it why not? Hart |
