Default Feisol Carbon Fibre Tripods

Limited stock of this highly regarded tripod is available for sale through my friends & contacts. We had a group order recently and these are the extras.

Check out the reviews in the U.S. (dpreview, Nikonian website etc.)... better than Velbon Carmagne, which are not sturdy enough. Lighter than Gitzo Mountaineer (almost similar in terms of performance).

Best part is the price:

CT-3401 (4 section tripod)
- S$350

CT-3301 (4 section tripod)
- S$340

Now everyone can afford to own carbon fibre tripods!

Check out www.feisol.com for the specs

Those interested pls email to astarbuck@yahoo.com your contact number (very important: tel/mobile no.)

Can arrange to meet and see the item first? No point reading up and still not knowing how it is like.

Is the center column material made of CF or aluminium?

NOW you tell me... I just ordered mine this week.

Anyway, FYI, the 3301 is a 3-section tripod.

I am looking for a good carbon fibre tripod. Are there are comments from existing users on the Feisol models?

[I am a newbie and know nuts about tripods.]

Default Feisol Owner

I got a Feisol CT 3401 Tripod after much delibration and I have absolutely no regrets. It is well made, very light and sturdy. The finish is not as good as a Gitzo and the centre column is not carbon fibre, but in every other aspect it is better or as good as a Gitzo. (The comparision is with a Gitzo 1228 or 1227).

Advantages
1. Comes with a case
2. The centre column is two piece, so one can use either the short column or join both the pieces to form a longer column.
3. Comes with a foam rubber grip

Disadvantages
1. The legs rotate and so tightening it can become a two handed procedure. 2. The centre column is circular compared to the Gitzo which has a groove within the circle and is therefore better at preventing rotation of the centre column

A brief comparision of the specifications
Code:
                  Gitzo 1227 Feisol CT3301 Gitzo 1228 Feisol CT3401
No. of Sections 3 3 4 4
Weight (kg) 1.56 1.4 1.5 1.45
Height with column(cm) 161 166 154 162
Height without column 139 127 132 134
Folded length 65 53 54 46
Lowest height 34 19 32 17
Load (kg) 8 7 8 7
As can be seen above, the Feisol is better in every respect. In fact the 3 section Feisol (Ct3301) is better than the four section Gitzo (1228) if you are willing to accept a 5 cm shorter height without the column.

I am not implying that this tripod is better than a Gitzo when looked from a build or a design perspective. The Gitzo is better made, more of a pleasure to use, is something akin to a work of art and worth paying more for. The question is How much More???

If price were no object and you want the best man can make, you will want the Gitzo. If price is any factor at all, there is no decision: Feisol

For price vs quality, for the purposes of carrying around, travel, backpacking Feisol is the choice, especially for folks who are looking for a good tripod and find Gitzo pricing a bit prohibitive.

The following links may help you decide

Cheers,
Gorby

Ps: The Feisol monopod is the most value for money especially if you buy both the monopod and tripod from them thus saving on postage.

The Gitzo equivalents (1227/1228) are more than double the price of the feisols locally.

Hi Minus & Robin,

I believe the thread starter has already ordered the items and he's opening these extras up for sale.

I too, am interested in the monopod. The equivalent CF monopod from Slik is available at CP but the Slik is shorter, heavier and it's maximum load is less. I'll be at CP tomorrow and will find out how much the Slik costs.

I am leaving for a tour of Egypt on the 21st and would like to get a monopod for the trip. I will be ordering within the next 3 days and whether they can meet my tight timeline.

If you are interested in ordering together, please PM me and leave me your phone number. As I will be requesting full payment by funds transfer (so no one backs out), if you have issues with trust, you can ignore this message.

Thanks
joanne

But even with this, it's still about 1.5kg... Much prefer something that is (total with ballhead) is less than 1kg.

I don't supposed they have models similar to Gitzo's 1028?
