Default Question on special effects

Hi

I saw in a magazine a photo (night shot) where the lamps look like stars (sparkling effect). Does anyone know how I can achieve this using the e-300 (or e-1). If I am unclear in my explanation, please let me know.

It depends on you actually.

If you want to use a filter, you can get a Hoya Star 6 or 8. I'm not sure exactly if the numbers are right. But you get the idea. The filters will create the special "star" effect on lights.

Check out the HOYA ones here:

The other way is to do it on software, This can be achieved with some plug-ins in Photoshop.

No star filters also can.
Use very small aperature. The smaller the more visible.

Hello Serene,

The effect is obtained using filters with etched patterns & lines on its surface as from comments above. You will need to obtain a filter which fits the diameter of your 14-45 or 50. This is expressed in millimetres & is 58mm & 52mm respectively.

Do however use it with descretion. The novelty of its use tends to wear off quickly :-)

here is one taken with starlight filter.

you can take a cardboard and make a cut in the starboard which is of a star shape, put the cardboard infront of the lens and shoot lights, they come out as stars (may be my explanation is lousy... bz bz bz at work )
