They're beautiful.

How'd you smuggle the pork ribs into the zoo without being detected?

Impressive shots! How come the lions are always sleeping whenever I visit the zoo...? Sigh.

Btw, tom, what kind of focal lengths do you normally use for your zoo shots?

thx

The best time to photograph lions is around 1pm as 1:10pm is the feeding time. But you'd better arrive earlier so can get many shots when lions yawn - OPEN THE MOUTH!

Now I use a 50-500mm, with the 1.6x multipler in D60, I got 800mm max. If I crop a bit, can hit 1000mm in terms of focal length. Normally pple may use a 70-200mm with a 1.4/2 times teleconverter to be closer. You need at least 300mm to get an ok shot for lions.

Happy shooting.
Tom

Actually, feeding time for the animal is a really good time to take photographs of animals in the zoo coz the whole group of animal will rush over to the keepers for food. So instead of throwing peanuts, maybe you can approach the keeper and ask him/her to help you out. Most of the time, the keepers will definitely be glad to help but most of the time, pple are too shy to ask.

PS: One tip for you guys is to go and get the zoo's leaflet with all the animal feeding time on it so that you can plan where you want to shoot easiler but it might be a bit rush for though.
