Default Oly D-560 motherboard fried.

There's an Olympus D-560 digicam sitting at home, which used to stop working on and off. When I put in fresh batteries, it would work for 4-5 shots and report an empty battery and shut down. Took it down to the oly service centre here, and they said the main board is fried. Needs $180 to replace, plus any other charges.

My cousin just had her Oly C-4040 lock up and die last month, and they also reported a main board failure.

Is this a common thing with oly cameras? I've never come across so many failures with other cameras. My wife wants a digicam to replace the spoilt one, but now I guess we will have to look at other brands.

Hello Sriram :-)

It's been quite some time since we last spoke.

Sorry to hear about the Oly digicam. Wow, the board replacement is pricey. It is a shame if a well built camera like the 4040 is let down by short lived circuitry. It's construction deserves better than being a paperweight :-( I had responded to an earlier poster who had reported some image issues that may be traced to camera settings. No response was received yet. But it was reported to be 4-years old.

These statistics aren't any that helpful though. Well my 10-year old OM4Ti is going strong if brand is anything to go by. Good Luck with your replacement digicam :-)

Cheers,

my 4040 also seemed to give me similar problem. i put in a set of freshly charged batteries in them, but i was shown the "low battery" icon pretty soon. thought i had something wrong... but nope, another freshly charged set showed about the same thing again.

will verify this some other time.

Hi CY, long time. I guess in these situations, there is quite a bit of luck involved. I do remember my ancient Kodak digicam also used to guzzle batteries like mad, but that was years ago ... a 1.x megapixel monster built like a brick. However, a couple of my friends have been using the C5060 for quite a while with good results. The luck factor again..

How's your E1 doing? Does it have a baby brother for backup now?

Hello Sriram,

Well, I've recently acquired the 11-22mm (with kind consent of my wife) but haven't gotten to use it definitively much like the Hoya 135mm you lent me :-)

The E1 (father) is having OMs (Grandparents) as backups :-) Just peeked into my OM viewfinder a few times lamenting why they don't make finders like these anymore ... sigh.

Else I wish you well :-)

Cheers,
