Default Focusing for 7D

I'm using a tamron 28 200 lens on my 7D. Quite often I find that the camera struggles to focus on a face close up at say 200. It just can't find the optimum focus. This is also the case when i focus on the eye brows or the hair of the person, not merely the skin or cheek where perhaps it is a bit hard to focus on.

Is this usual?

Which focus sensor did u use? The centre one is a cross-type sensor which means it's the most sensitive... the others are a lot less sensitive.... I usually use the centre sensor exclusively.... just frame, lock exposure (AEL), the focus, lock using shutter button, recompose and shoot...
