wow... love your pics....

you stated that you reversed your lens in your first post...
just like to ask: since reversing lens have to use manual focusing and get really close to the subject, my question is:

1. how did you manage to focus so fast and sharp ?
2. how did you manage to get so close without scaring the insects away ?

would like like some pointers from you.... thanks...

1. Not so fast I think, you're right stating that eversing lens have to use manual focusing, in term of that you have to move your camera forward or backward to get focus. Then half press shutter btn, check if u get focus as u want it to be, if yes then full press the btn.. if no, try again

2. I usually take pics in the morning when insects still resting. But you can sneak around some insects without scaring them even not in the morning. Hoverfly for example, you can sneak around it everytime..

Megaweb has an excellent tutorial on reversing lens trick at http://megaweb.clubsnap.org/articles...versed_35mmf2/ . My setup is more less like that, except I use 50mm instead of 35mm, and no slave flash.

no slave flash? then do u use the flash on the cam? Personally i tot it was pretty much useless to use the flash on the cam.
But the 2nd pic looks illuminated.
Ok so basically i just wanna ask if by any chance you used any flash at all?

Yup, no slave flash. I just use internal flash. on #4, with my sister's help, she hold a piece of paper to "bounce" the flash.

sorry, newbie here

- is it necessary to use the flash?
- even in bright sunlight, will we still need to use the flash?
- wat is the purpose to "bounce" the flash?

Thanks.

Of course, you'll need the flash, F/8.0 setting will cause the pic quite dark even in bright sunlight.. also needed to gain proper shutter speed, unless you have super-steady-metal arms

Purposes of "bouncing" the (internal) flash:
- Object is so tiny and covered by the lens, so flash wont reach the object (if use my setup, if use megaweb's setup, shouldnt worry abt that). Since I dont use any slave flash, bouncing the (internal) flash is needed to make sure the flash light reach the object
- To diffuse the flash, so the result would look more natural, even with megaweb's setup, you'll need a diffuser (as he already mentioned)..

Climber : Just try to go around in the morning or really cold day.. everything will be easier.. but you still need to move slowly..
