Third party lenses are perfectly fine. In fact I used a Tokina 12-24mm and it is sharper than some of my Canon lenses, no problem with it at all. But note that if you are using FF, this lens is only for crop sensor camera... plus not sure if it had in built motor so if your Nikon is an entry level one, it might not have AF and you can only do manual focusing.

Rent both and try... You might not even need constant f/2.8

Just follow your heart. Both UWA lenses that you are considering are good glasses. I know of people who know of 3rd party lenses which are sharper but still choose to stick to lenses made by camera manufacturers. I think it's perfectly fine.

Include Nikon 10-24 lens into your consideration, if your intent is to use the lens for landscape photography which is usually done at small aperture opening (for example F8 or F11).

I'd vote for the Tokina - quality has been fantastic! Also, the f2.8 has been very useful, sometimes, you want to take a group pix in a restaurant, where it is dark, and due to space constraint - u can't go back enough.

Taking into consideration that if you use f2.8 in a tight space and trying to shoot a group, not all the faces will be in focus, some will be OOF. You need to really calculate your DOF.
