Why choose a flight path that has dangerous high mountains in the way? There are so many other safe flight routes, for demo purpose only.

wow. not much left of the plane.

were those photographs on the plane just before the crash? or was that from a previous flight?

not sure what type of 'GPS' is this Sukhoi Superjet 100-95 using. since it is a Russia made jet, i think it is unlikely they will use the US made GPS

No doubt a Russian jet but nevertheless in a globalised world, it is thoroughly equipped with a full suite of western avionics with Thales Group (Aerospace Division) as tier 1 supplier and systems integrator for Sukhoi Company. Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) / Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) and Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) Line-Replaceable Unit (LRU) used is the Terrain and Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TēCAS) from Aviation Communication & Surveillance Systems (ACCS) .

Russia TV channel says pilots may have chosen to ignore the terrain / collision warning (if it had functioned properly).

    1. Warning signal will sound.
    2. There is a flashing light in the plane cockpit.
    3. A human voice announcement will warn.

The TNI Kopasus rescue team has reported finding the pilot hanging from a tree with a parachute 5 km away from the wreckage.

    Article in Bahasa Indonesia.

With reference to my prior post, the ACCS' TēCAS differs from most other EGPWS / TAWS by providing early terrain warning and issuing avoidance alerts ("Terrain Ahead! Terrain Ahead!" / "Avoid Terrain! Avoid Terrain!" annunciation) in advance based on actual real-time flight performance capability instead of the standard EGPWS Mode 1 and Mode 2 ("Sink Rate! Pull Up!" / "Terrain! Pull Up!") aural warnings which may be too little, too late at times. In short the ACCS' TēCAS increases the margin of opportunity available for the flight crew, thus allowing them to perform immediate evasive manoeuvre in all three axis (pitch, roll and yaw) way ahead of the hazardous obstacle and terrain.

Of course this is assuming that the ACCS' TēCAS is not inhibited for any reason due to it being inoperative or a lack of relevant terrain data in the Compact Flash (CF) card.

P.S. Please pardon me for all the mumble jumbo, couldn't find any way else to provide a simpler explanation. :)

List of passengers and crew members on board officially released by Sukhoi Co.

Lots of Key Appointment Holders (KAHs) on-board including 7 pilots from various airlines.

Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) recovered, hopefully data integrity of the Crash Survivable Memory Unit (CSMU (storage device in the cylindrical canister)) is not compromised in anyway.

Search for Flight Data Recorder (FDR) still underway.
