RA-97004 was operating at Flight Level (FL) 100 (~ 10,000 feet Above Mean Sea Level (AMSL)) when the flight crew requested an immediate descent to Flight Level (FL) 060 (~ 6,000 feet Above Mean Sea Level (AMSL)), all contact with the aircraft was subsequently lost at approximately 2012-05-09 T 16.30.00 +8 in the vicinity of Mount Salak, a volcanic range with a maximum elevation of 7,254 feet.

It would not be the first time that a plane slammed into a mountain in indonesia that was not on a map...

Supposed to be demo flight to market the plane to Indonesian carriers. This is bad for sales.
RT Channel 151 of cable TV has extensive coverage of it because the plane is Russian.

No doubt thought the Sukhoi Superjet 100 is special for being the Russian Federation's first new airliner in more than two decades, it was introduced into commercial service just last year on the 21st of April 2011 with Armavia.

Many important and powerful people are pinning their hopes on it to revive the Russian aviation industry.

    Wreckage of Sukhoi Superjet 100-95 (Registration Number: RA-97004 / Manufacturer's Serial Number (MSN): 95004) has been found at approximately 2012-05-10 T 10:15 +8 some 18 to 19 hours after it went missing at 2012-05-09 T 15:33 +8.

Indonesian rescuers have reached the crash site located on Mount Salak at an elevation of between 5,000 to 6,000 feet Above Mean Sea Level (AMSL) with much difficulty as a result of the precipitous terrain. There are currently no sign of any survivors yet and up to 50 could be feared dead from an initial estimated of 44 souls based on the flight manifest.

Quite possibly the final photos of some of those on-board the ill-fated flight taken by Sergey Dolya who happened to be covering a demonstration earlier in the day.

    2 hardware failures.

The ground proximity warning systems would have warned the plane’s crew in time enough to avoid collision with terrain.

When the plane crashed, an emergency beacon should have immediately gone off, but it did not happen.

They are stewardesses for the Indonesian Airline that had placed orders for this plane. This demo was held in cooperation with this airline.

    Very disrespectful to the dead...

An an aerospace engineer, as much I do not engage in pure, unwarranted presumption and speculation without access to all relevant and verifiable data and information knowing the multiple contributing factors in the nature of such aviation accidents and incidents. I couldn't help myself but think if this was indeed a Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT), just a couple of hundred feet higher or so, the passengers on-board will still be enjoying their champagne and subsequently living out their everyday life arguably for the better or worse.

All 40 to 50 or so on-board the ill-fated demonstration flight are dead. Bodies are being recovered which may be of a challenge considering the precipitous terrain of the crash site.

Overview of almost the entire crash site with traces of debris originating from the impact area being strewn hundreds of meters vertically down the arduous slope.

An area located along the bottom of the debris trail with reference to the initial photo above depicting the overview of almost the entire crash site.

Not a single intact body has been found so find, one can imagine the horrific force of destruction upon impact by recalling when 9V-TRF "SilkAir 185" disintegrated and plunged into the Musi River mysteriously at supersonic velocity on the 19th of December 1997, only over a 150 or so indescribable body parts were ever recovered and from these, only 6 were ever positively identified by the Disaster Victim identification (DVI) team on scene.
