Default Is there photojournalist who only take photo and don't write?

This has been a question running through my head for a long time..
So just wanna know the answer from you people...

For eg, if you browse through NG, those pictures and text in the articles are usually prepared by a photographer and a writer respectively..

So what is the term 'photojournalist' means then?

i guess in times like this, where every organisation is cutting costs, editors/bosses will be looking for those with versatile skills and knowledge who can take n several roles..

guess most photographers will have to double up as writers should the need arise..

that's not true, like what ortega said, the photojournalist has to write also, a qualified photojournalist needs to be a good writer as well the example you quoted is not one of photojournalism.

print journalist: *writes* for publications like newspapers
broadcast journalist: works with *broadcast* media, e.g. television
    so photo journalist: ???

when we see the word journalism, we tend to think about writing/words, but more broadly, journalism is about presenting the news, or telling a story, through a certain medium.

so photojournalism should primarily be about telling a story through photos. the difference between a photographer and a photojourn isn't whether one writes or not (e.g. wedding photogs who do PJ style don't do write-ups), but the type/style/application of their work. and print reporters who take photos aren't photojournalists, they're just reporters who take photos

just what i think lah. in the end it's about how you define your terms.

Yup. It is moving that way in Singapore where you cannot just shoot, you have to learn to write as well.

Over here there are plenty of specialists. In fact, I can't think of anyone I know in the news business, either sport or general news, who does one as well as the other. Ie all photographers are specialist photographers, all journalists are specialist writers. The fact is at a news conference for instance, I'm concentrating on looking for the person's expression, I don't have the ability to do several things at once and also listen to what they're saying and process that information.

Fact is I also consider myself a photojournalist. I think the definition of a journalist does imply writing, but the addition of the phrase photo to the front of it implies that same communication through the use of photographs.

I am currently freelancing as a photojournalist photographer with some local publishers and I don't write. I just take pictures. It depends on which publishers you work with. Most established publishers would have the writer and photographer send to the interview or set.
