Default First post of the year

This butterfly is usually very difficult to take, as it tends to fly away when pp comes. But this guy was VERY co-operative that day....and was willing to be a model for me! He stayed put for almost 30 mins, though he flew off once, he came back to the next leaf!

The settings are FZ10, F8, ISO 50 and is common to all.
For right and left pic, its with the 6T and Sigma close up, and 1/60 and 1/80 respectively. The center top and bottom one are with 6T only, 1/60. All are in Apeture priority mode except the left one.

The Lesser Grass Blue is rather common and can sometimes be abundant in Singapore. It is a small butterfly and is usually found flying close to the ground in open sunlit grassy patches. The male is dull purplish blue above whilst the female is brown. The underside is grey with a series of small dark spots on the fore- and hindwings.
The butterfly is more often observed outside the nature reserves, in suburban areas where the host plant, Mimosa pudica (Touch-Me-Not/Sensitive Plant) can be found growing as a weed. As it is so small, it is often overlooked as it flutters feebly amongst the roadside weeds, searching out small flowers as it feeds.

The 2nd pic is not a butterfly but a moth. But I liked the shape of the wings and the leaf...double V!

Appreciate any comments!

Another great pic from you on the New Year day!!

Do you always go so close to the insect to take them from the front? Aint they scare as they might just flew off away?? Or rather you are a friendly photogapher?

Thanks! Working distance is about 19-29 cm, and you have to approach slowly. Sometimes it works sometimes not....

You should singled out the first pic into individual to let us admire your shots! But the Double V is a little, just a little, off for your standard, CY

Last year(or rather yesterday), your dragonfly shots were fantastic!!! And I wonder how big that dragonfly was? Looked big and very sharp!!!

Agree with you on the 2nd pic....was thinking whether to post or not, but I liked the V effect...

The dragonfly was the normal size one....not very big nor small....8 cm maybe????

Using PS7.

Aritcle here shows how to do it.
http://www.clubsnap.org/display.php?...er/borders.htm

What I did was a modified method. Select rectangle marching ants with some wings protruding, use polygon lasso +shift to add wings, copy and paste selection and follow above article method.
