Spent ard $3800 for 17 days including air tix @$1499 (emirates) and $187 (internal flight). Free and easy. Rented a car for $100/day and drive almost 4500km in total. Wine and dine almost every day

I brought my beloved Nikon D70 with kit lens and Nikkor 70-300mm f4-f5.6G and tripod for taking zoom photos in the safari. Brought along a Compact Drive for storing RAW photos.

Just curious.. a show of hands on who might be interested and what would you pay for a 1 week guided trip (photo shooting) at south africa?

BTW nice pics dude..

Hi,

Thanks very much for sharing your photos.

As I have always been interested in visitng SA and surrounds, this was really very nice.

Perhaps you could share with us why you chose to desaturate some of the pictures.

Thanks
joanne

Sometimes I turned my pics into B&W to bring out the form of my subject. B&W pics also gives you different "feel" to the pic. Try to be more creative. Don't always delete away shots that you think is underexposed. Turn them into B&W and you may see that the pic tells a different story ...

great pics... see that you managed to shoot a couple of the "BIG 5" even without a guide. i heard it's pretty difficult to get to them without a safari guide.

3800 for 17 days is considered very cheap since you mentioned you wine and dine... unless it's wine on water and dine on bread!

Actually the "big 5" include lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. I didn't manage to see any of the 2 elusive meat eaters though. Heehee, sometimes I drive behind the safari guide to follow where the actions are. They are the experts who know where to find the animals. There are also maps in the park to indicate the lastetst sightings of animals but you've to be fast because the animals are always on the move.

Yeah... thats why i said you did well to capture "couple" of the BIG 5 (which is Rhino and Elephant). I heard the most difficult is actually the Leopard as they moves around quickly. Lions and buffalo still quite commonly seen if you follow a good guide.

Don't mind me speaking my mind...
the opportunities were all there, but I feel you didn't really bring it out...

I didn't think the pics were interesting...u were just taking very standard shots of scenery and animals.

comments like this are totally inappropriate. If people want to give a negative opinion of the pics, its their opinion, and he offered it in a polite manner too.

p.s. why is this in the Nikon subforum?
