Default D70's Battery Gauge Issue

Hi guys,

Was shooting in Sentosa today, went there with the battery gauge full (but not fully charged, was shooting yesterday) after abt 200 shots the battery gauge dropped by 1 bar... but then very quickly after that (<15mins) the battery just went flat...

Not much of a warning leh... do you guys get this too?

I think this is a trademark of Nikon.....my 4 years old coolpix 800 is like this and Nikon can't seems to get it fix on D70

The gauge is the best warning, the moment it stops down to two bars, time to charge. Within moments it can very fast deplete to 1 bar and gone.

Ya... it drops extremely fast once it's no longer "full" status... Same with megapower battery.. did full 8-10hrs charge on first use.

This is sooooooooooooo helpful

EN4 is D2H's battery, the gauges and battery indicator are on the D2H body.

300 shots confirm can, did you get a faulty battery? Try conditioning it a few times and see, if still has problem go back to Nikon.

I have obtained 1500+ shots with some preview and some uses of the internal flashes on the D70 before the battery meter starts dipping and very soon it drops to 1 bar and after a few shots out, the battery died.

Like what others have said, to get 1500+ shots with a full charge should be normal...

when it's showing full batt, it actually lasts quite long.
however, when it goes down to 2/3 or 1/3 batt, it dies without much warning...
that's what happened to me when i tried to take pictures of my gramps with her flowers... =*(

these batteries cannot comapre with those 6-cells and 8 cells laptop batteries. i think nikon is 2 cells.
so once you start to charge the batteries please fully charged. and also finish your battery before your charge them since nikon charge cannot discharge the batteries.

the batteries reading is not accurate based on the voltage, since batteries metering is linear to the voltage, but voltage is not linear to the number of pictures you taken.

Does the third party battery from Eastgear has detrimental effect on the camera?

plse check on the setting for the amount of time the lcd lights up after shooting, you also need to check how much chimming you are doing ie opening up the file and looking and looking and looking. Even the time duration setting for the meter plays a role in how long the battery lasts.

typically new users get less milage per charge since they review a lot or do functions that run the lcd a lot ie adjustment to the settings, slide show on camera...

The new 1700mAH cells are good. Claimed that they are Sanyo/Panasonic cells. I have used 2 of them for my last 4 shoots, pretty ok. By OK i mean no problems as in them dying out on me suddenly in the midst or exploding in the camera/charger etc.... I will be going to Indonesia during CNY for some bird and street shooting where i will stress them out.

But I still don't bet on it. I have 3 original batts and i always bring all of them along on important shoots.
