    No. It's 140mm @ F4.0. Lens is 70-200 VRII

Taken more as a test than anything to see what the sensor has on offer.

Result: INCREDIBLE latitude in the shadows. You can recover data from almost pitch black areas without any noise whatsoever. Not as much headroom in the highlights, but still more than any camera I've used till date.

Of course, crazy detail everywhere. This is just beyond awesome.

    ISO 100, f11, 30s, 20mm

Indeed, the dynamic range of the D800 is the best so far. I'm also very impressed with its auto white balance -- no need to do much colour adjustment on the PC. Exposure is fairly accurate too.

Just want to share that the D800 works extremely well with the Zeiss ZF 28/2. Here's a sample pix, followed by a 100% crop.

Full scene, the D800 balances the highlights and shadow areas very well:

100% crop of branches -- awesome!

Thank you! I am loving everything about the camera!

@Bigpond: The distinctive Zeiss microcontrast on the trees is just awesome!

Thanks -- I am discovering each day how the D800 reveals the really good lenses from those that are just adequate. Some of my best lenses -- like the ZF28/2 and 35/2 -- are MF, and will probably outlast me.

I agree. My shot was taken with a Sigma 20 f1.8 and the D800 just murderized that lens, especially in the corners.

Need to save up for a 16-35, it seems.

It's a one click fix in Lightroom. Barrel distortions are very easy to correct.

On the plus side, the 16-35 is sharp all across the frame, is pretty immune to flares and also has a filter thread. All these are things that can't really be taken care of in post production, unlike barrel distortion.

As regards distortion, I thought the D800 has auto-distortion correction -- just need to update the latest firmware. But I am not sure whether there will be a loss of resolution if huge distortion adjustments are applied in software (you are basically stretching the pixels a lot)...

This is fabulous! Great exposure -- did you use HDR to get this effect?
