Default FZ20 Remote Shutter Release - Another Design

Just built my own remote shutter release. Based on the now well known circuit, except this has the "Firing" button only.

Original circuit design HERE !

When press, the camera will focus and then take the shot.

Following are my reasons for not including the focus button:
1. The focus can be prelock by changing to manual focus at side of camera. By pressing the manual-focus level down, the FZ20 will do the auto focus and lock it.

2. The "Firing" button will perform the focus before taking the shot anyway if it is in auto-focus mode.

Component required:
1. 39 KOhm resistor (I combine the 36KOhm and 2.7KOhm resistor in the original design into one as I do not need the focus button)
2. 2 KOhm resistor
3. Big mono plug (only required the plastic sleve to house the button)
4. Push button that fit the mono plug sleve
5. 4 part plugs (I used the Nokia ear-set)

Have Fun

Other than the Nokia 4-parts plug, all parts bought from Sim Lim Tower. The shop is at the 3rd Flr, right in front of the escalator.

Have Fun.

Sorry to dig out this. But i need someone advice me. I bought the 2 resistor as mentioned above. But then i bought the one rating 0.25W as it is the cheapest. but somehow i couldnt get it right. assuming i have 2 wire from the earphone. i got one connected to a 2kOhm to the RH switch. Another wire connected to the LH switch. Then the 39Kohm can use to "create" a paralle across the switch.

I woner what went wrong. It doesnt work.
Thanks.

0.25w rating works fine. If you are using the plug from the nokia phone, and counting the parts on the plug from the tip from 1 to 4, make sure there is no connection on tip1 and tip2 to tip3 and tip4. Put it another way, there should not be any connection at all on tip1 and tip2 to any other tips.

Hope this help.

Sorry, but me don't understand your problem. On the the plug you have 4 "circuits". You need only 2. The n° 3 & 4 on the picture...

I understand i need to use only 2 wire out of the 4? But which of the 2 wire should i use? Coz i do not have a multimeter, so i am unable to track that 2 wire.

It's difficult because eatch plug is different. If you don't have multimeter, you can use a battery (pile) and a light bulb (from Flashlight by ex.) and you search the good contact... Want you a schema ?

How much does it actually cost to make one of these? Why not just buy from Panasonic? I bought one for around $23+ ...

Buy a test pen with continuity test function. The test pen will light up when there is a continuous circuit. Good for testing other thing like if your bulb is blown or the fuse is blownl. If you don't use the test function often, at least you have another spare screw driver.

why buy one when you can make one? hehehehe.... if you go minimal and use cheap switch, you'll only need to spend less than 10 bucks. not to mention the satisfaction over your achievement. why are we spending time go round the country looking for great scene and moment when you can go to internet and find and download whatever photos you like?

but seriously, the reason why people making their diy stuff is because we can modify and improve the design and functionality. want one button? can. want two buttons? oso can... want focus lock? still can... want to shoot without focus lock/ae lock? can oso... how long you want the cable to be? detachable? you name it, bro...

cheers,
sg

i think i figure it out. Anyway 2 resistor cost 30cent together. A switch is 60cent. A holder is $1.50. And a nokia earphone is $1. Total is $3.40.

Feedback? Nope. Usage? Half press to focus, full press to 'fire'.

You can email Panasonic (from their website) and ask them. They ordered for me because they had no stock, dunno bout now tho'.

It's the one you can see in one of the photos here http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/pa...ew/index.shtml
