Well, you should just look thru the past threads and you will realise how people associated voyeurism to the pic when the person just post a candid shot of a girl.

You don't get my point. The question in doubt here is why taking pretty girls secretly is a taboo but alright when one take shots of others secretly. Others as in any human subject except pretty girls, i bet even when one post an ugly girl, few will comment that is immoral etc.

As many mentioned, perhaps Singapore is still a conservative country.

As Belle/Sebastain said, Happy New Year, not withstanding the terrible tragedy we just experienced.

    Regarding topics "discussed" in CS.

I have been a regular contributor to this forum since I joined mid-2004. NEVER had I talked about who has what lens and what lens is better than another. I had talked about equipments but only with reference to technical matters. And I am not alone in the way I contribute my posts. There are many like me. Occasionally some may be flippant and indulge in light-hearted banter with each other.

So your sweeping statement "discussed nothing more than comparing lenses..." is really extremely inaccurate, (perhaps a result of misdirected/skewed observations - what have you been observing!?) and quite offensive, to put it mildly. There are people who like to talk about lenses, and some are collectors. So they talked about equipments. Some are novice, and have yet to understand the proper place of equipment. But we are all learning. Sweeping statements like yours are often wrong, and I think you should learn how to rephrase your thots better. The world will be a better place if we learn not to shoot from our pelvis.

Street shooting by definition is to "shoot" (ie take photo) of people on the street (public) doing public things.

Please note that if you have a different meaning, don't twist an existing word. This seems to be an increasing kind of arrogance ("I like to use it the word this way because I like it!" ) in the forum
Thank you Watcher. As jonlou and you pointed out. voyuerism is a whole different word all together. But looking at past threads, which is what i wanna point out. People are using this word interchangably.

Perhaps I should put across more clearly. my standards by comparing lens, is just who has better lens. I am sure its pretty obvious in some threads.

We have people who like flaunting and discussing about their equipments ... BUT ... we do have people who discuss and share tips and tricks on getting good shots too.

We have people who thinks shooting pics of pretty girls secretly is 'just not right' ... BUT ... we do have those who think it's alright.

In life, ain't it a norm to have people who think and react differently?

Generalizing Singapore as a 'still conservative country' ain't that right. Perhaps some of us people here are conservative ... not everyone.

The problem with these sites is that there are people who ignore copyright and post photographs taken by others.

Nothing wrong with that either... I ask around who have what lens and what's a better lens all the time to decide on my next purchase... it ain't cheap you know, and ppl just wanna get value purchase for their money...

I mean, stuff abt technique and stuff, are not all easily describe by words alone therefore you might see lesser of them in the forum... but tat doesn't mean what Clubsnapper do on the overall... come to outings, go SEED... u'll see

But donít you guys think that Singaporeans are not as willing to share their techniques as compared to other countries? Another thing that I have noticed is that this forum has progressed from one in the past which is pretty good in standard to now, where people discussed nothing more then comparing lens and who has what lens? Is lens really that an important factor? Good lens, lousy skills = LOUSY overall.

Another issue is on street photography, voyeurism whatever you all might call it. Looking back at a few threads, it seems that Singaporeans are pretty particularly about this. In the US, as long as you are in the public place, no one cares about who you are taking. Yes, it is fine to take photos, candid ones of old man on the street, old aunties doing taiji, or punks doing their stunts, and I think if one would to pose a candid shot of a handsome man in the forums, no voyeurism of such word will appear. BUT when a pretty lady is being captured on image, all the crap about moral ethnics, law of modesty, and etc will come out, and in fact, the thread will become popular overnight.

What do you define by the term voyeurism? A word that only applies when taking upksirt shots, or now to the extent where a shot of a pretty lady = voyeurism. And what is the difference if you take it in a very nicely composed frame or just a normal shot of her. The former would be artistic, sweet and the latter is bad, this guy has no moral ethnics. So if I take candid, spy shots of old man on the streets sleeping, will anyone stop me, and say I have no moral values?

Up to now, I still donít understand why there is such discrimination between candid shots of 2 different groups: pretty ladies and others. Forget this whole thread if you guys think I am talking crap here. But I just want to voice out some thoughts on these 2 issues.

    God Bless

Aiyah, I think forum should remain a forum. Let people say how they feel, so long as it follows the guidelines of the webmaster and law of the country in which it is situated.

    eg.
    1. No racial provocation.
    2. No 'scolding' of fellow CSer's 'mother, father and other relatives'.
    etc...

Everyone relax a little, new year's coming!

Gummi, I agree with you completely. I think people are in a dilema. We were taught what was good and bad and have our own standards, but then we are also sheep who support popular people and opinions sometimes. That may be the problem.

By looking at this thread, it reminds me of a story...

A friend of mine told me this:
Most of the time, what causes a problem? (exclude natural disaster)
    Humans!
Why does our camera spoil? ->
    i) Components created by humans?
ii) Poor handling created by humans?
    iii)Poor Design by humans?

In the army, people always complain, soldiers always rash to wait and wait to rush, so much time spend to collect ammunition after excercise, water not sufficient during excercise, food not delivered on time...etc etc....
These problem arrises from army personals, and those who complained are also from army personals. meaning -> They are complaining about themselves.

Have you look into a mirror and tell yourself? Why are we complaining so much and do nothing to help or make the situation better?
Why not change the effort in complaining to something useful. Possibly you can organise classes to guide the newbies?

Not sure if the above sounds logical but please do consider what I/myfriend have put across....
